The Washington Capitals have announced the signing of unrestricted free agent left winger Wojtek Wolski to a 1-year contract worth $600,000. This is a significant pay cut from his previous contract (2 years, $7.6 million).

Over his career, Wolski has scored 95 goals and 258 points in 424 career NHL games, plus 8 goals and 17 points in 29 playoff games. A native of Zabrze, Poland, Wolski started his NHL in 2005 with the Colorado Avalanche, who drafted him 21st overall in 2004. Lack of Interest in Alexander Semin Not As Mysterious As His Enigmatic Play, But Skilled Forward Should Find Work Soon
Normally, a player with a 40-goal campaign and two other 30-goal seasons on his resume would be a pretty hot commodity in NHL free agency. Zach Parise, who has topped the 40-goal mark once and reached 30 four other times, had just about every team after him on July 1 and ended up inking a 13-year, $98 million deal to head home to Minnesota. Shane Doan, who has never reached the 40...

Semin, Doan, Standing Pat
Alexander Semin’s waiting for one thing: Shane Doan. Once Doan signs, so will Semin. For less. If you think it’s his attitude that has kept Ken Holland from signing him already, you’re wrong. The Wing Way can solve attitude issues and I believe Semin would take a one-year deal to prove the anti-Semintics wrong.
But not until the Doan decision is made.

Panthers Hoping Mueller Can Find His Game Again
from Harvey Fialkov of the SunSentinel, Although not quite as bold as last summer’s free-agent haul Panthers GM Dale Tallon continues to tinker with the addition of former Avs center Peter Mueller. The Minnesota native has the size (6-2, 204) that Tallon covets in centers. He’s banking on his injury-prone days are over and he can pick up from a phenomenal rookie season in 2007...
Panthers sign Mueller
The Florida Panthers took a bit of chance by signing free agent forward Peter Mueller to a one-year, $1.75 million contract on Thursday. Concussion problems limited him to 32 games last season for Colorado, and he had just seven goals and nine assists. He passed his physical with the Panthers earlier this week. "I hope to get him back to what he was as a rookie,"...
Dan Spiegel: Summer Of Tweaking To One Of Panic?
It's hard to imagine that one would find anything but smiles around the Florida Panthers this time of year. They just won their first division title in franchise history. They made the playoffs for the first time in over a decade. They were one Game 7 goal away in double overtime against the Devils from advancing to the second round.
Additionally, they have the #1 ranked...
NHL Free Agency Leftovers: Alexander Semin
By: Joe Veroni
NHL Free Agency has been underway for nearly two weeks and Alexander Semin is still available. He’s the biggest fish left in a very small pond of Unrestricted Free Agents. Zach Parise and Ryan Suter were the consensus top FA prizes on July 1, but Semin is no slouch. Just compare Parise’s career stats to Semin’s and it might be surprising...
