ST. LOUIS -- A show of hands, please: Raise your hand if you saw the signing of Carlo Colaiacovo coming. Nobody? Hello? Bueller? Bueller? Didn't think so. Colaiacovo didn't see it coming, either. "I never thought returning to St. Louis was a possibility with seven defensemen under contract," Colaiacovo says. But then one of the seven got hurt. Jordan Leopold went down with a right hand injury Nov. 7 that required surgery this past Wednesday. Leopold is expected to miss a minimum of two months. All of a sudden a light went on for Colaiacovo, who had spent parts of four seasons with the Blues from 2008-2012. "When news broke of Leopold suffering an injury, I knew this was where I wanted to be," Colaiacovo says. The signing of Colaiacovo came together rather quickly. A series of conversations Monday led to an agreement Tuesday. Once his immigration paperwork from Canada was completed, Colaiacovo was on the ice practicing with the Blues on Thursday. ...

Colaiacovo calls return to Blues 'too good to be true'

When the situation presented itself for Carlo Colaiacovo, it was a no-brainer for the veteran defenseman to go back to familiar territory. Colaiacovo, 30, was on the ice for the morning skate Thursday with the St. Louis Blues after settling immigration paperwork, passing his physical and then making his one-year, $550,000 one-way contract official. Colaiacovo played for the Blues...

Blues place Porter on waivers

The Blues placed veteran Chris Porter on waivers for a period that will end today. Any team can claim Porter, who has 129 games, 10 goals and 24 points of experience. The 29-year-old left winger got the short end of the roster stick this season when the Blues signed free agent Brenden Morrow. Porter played well for the Blues down the stretch last season. When Scott Nichol was injured...

ST. LOUIS (AP) Alexander Steen scored his league-leading 17th goal and also added an assist to lead the St. Louis Blues to a 4-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night. Steen extended his scoring streak to 13 games, the longest for a Blue since Pierre Turgeon had a 15-game streak in 1999-2000. The Blues won for the fifth time in six games despite giving up two short-handed...

Blues pull away in third to beat Hurricanes

Blues coach Ken Hitchcock believes another shoe is out there, waiting. It wavered on Saturday night at Scottrade Center, but didn’t drop. Alexander Steen’s third-period goal sent the Blues toward a redeeming 4-2 victory in front of 17,936 patrons. Steen’s goal, with just under 14 minutes remaining, was his league-leading 17th. It came by way of a terrific pass from Roman Polak...

Steen, Blues rout Avalanche

Alexander Steen scored his league-leading 15th and 16th goals and the St. Louis Blues' slumping power play woke up with three goals in a 7-3 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday night. St. Louis has won seven of nine and is off to the fastest start in franchise history with 12 wins in its first 17 games. Colorado lost back-to-back contests for the first time this season...

Avs/Blues- Bad Blood Brewing

from Adrian Dater of All Things Avs, But this idiot also makes the following observations about the game tonight: - Chris Stewart made a classless gesture after dropping the gloves with a 35-year-old defenseman and winning the fight, throwing his arms in the air. The Avs thought so too. - Patrick Bordeleau was sent out on the ice by Patrick Roy later to see if Stewart...

Steen, Blues handle Hurricanes

Roman Polak was celebrating even before Alexander Steen scored the winning goal in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes. Polak had found Steen wide open in the middle of the ice and hit him with a long clearing pass, sending in Steen alone on Carolina goalie Justin Peters. At that point, Polak knew what was coming. "He didn't even shoot it and I was already...

Video: T.J. Oshie's reverse hit on Jamie McGinn

I could have posted maybe 15 videos from the Blues' beating of the Colorado Avalanche. Three fights, seven goals and a series of big hits, strange plays and awesome hockey. A couple days removed from the game I find I'm still marveling over T.J. Oshie's reverse hit on Jamie McGinn.  While this hit may be lost in a game which featured numerous viral moments, Oshie...

Hurricanes-Blues Preview

After a period of dormancy, the St. Louis Blues rediscovered their explosive power play in a dominant victory. Producing similar results could prove to be a challenge Saturday night when they host the Hurricanes, given the goaltending Carolina has received of late. The Blues (12-2-3) went 1 for 14 on power-play opportunities during a five-game span, though it only cost them two...

Blues-Capitals Preview

With red-hot Alexander Steen leading the way, the St. Louis Blues are riding one of the league's most prolific offenses through another outstanding stretch. They'll likely have to continue that surge against Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals, who are scoring at a high rate during their home winning streak. The surging Blues will try for their ninth win in 11 games...
