The St. Louis Blues are no Detroit Red Wings, but they might have to play the role of heel now anyway. Consider them the understudy, who will now play the role of villain for the rest of this show’s run. At least when it comes to someone for Chicago Blackhawks fans. The Wings will always be most loathed, but with Detroit now in a different division and conference…well, it’s not going to be the Nashville Predators or Columbus Blue Jackets, that’s for sure. The St. Louis Blues have been division rivals with the Blackhawks since 1970. And a program on their rivalry airs Wednesday night on NBCSN at 7pm CDT. Some excerpts: Former St. Louis Blues forward and current Blues executive vice president Brett Hull: “The electricity that would go through the arena – it was scary. If someone crossed the line, someone was going to pay…it was bedlam.” Former Chicago Blackhawk and current NBC analyst Jeremy Roenick on 1989 playoff series: “I got tangled up with (St. Louis Blues defenseman) Glen Featherstone behind the net. I started jawing with him, and he cross-checked me right in the mouth and knocked all of my teeth out. Then I scored the game-winning goal in the third (period) – it was pretty cool.” Paul M.
