I don't think words would do justice to describe what the hockey world just witnessed, so I'm going to do my best.

I'm going to request that you find the full replay of this game at 2:00am Saturday morning on CSN so you can relive what just happened.

But before you do that, I have one serious question to ask...

The Flyers organization should adopt the nickname, "The Comeback Kids", trademark it, and use it on all their merchandise.

Yet again, the Flyers battled back from 2-0, 3-1, 4-3, and 5-4 to pull off an improbable 8-5 victory over the Penguins on Friday night. I swore up and down this habit of going down early would come back to haunt them, but they proved everyone wrong again.

For this post's purposes, here are the highlights of a game that will undoubtedly go down as a Philly playoff classic, courtesy of CSNPhilly.com:

There were so many storylines to this game. Game 2 was a mini-series within the actual series. After the dust has settled, this is what we've gathered:

  • Paul Holmgren looks like a damn genius right now. I know he's not that great with math, but I have an equation for you that absolutely no one can argue with:
  • (Sean Couturier + Brayden Schenn + Wayne Simmonds + Jake Voracek) > (Mike Richards + Jeff Carter)
  • For that, you can thank him later.
  • I don't think there has been a coach in the history of sports that uses the timeout more effectively than Peter Laviolette. We like to call it "The Lavio-lifeline".
  • The Penguins have outscored the Flyers 6-1 in the 1st period through 2 games in this series. This is something that MUST CHANGE.
  • The Flyers have outscored the Penguins 11-2 over the rest of the game through 2 games in this series. For some reason, the Flyers just seem to play better when coming from behind.
  • Sean Couturier was the 2nd Flyers rookie to have his coming out party in these young playoffs. His first ever playoff goals scored amounted for a hat trick (his first career one). 3G and 1A were his final stats in an insane 16:30 time on ice.
  • He is 19 years old.
  • Couturier also shut down the league's top scorer for the 2nd straight game. How awesome is it that we have a guy who can completely nullify Evgeni Malkin. Did I mention he was 19 years old?
  • Claude Giroux played a little bit better tonight, no? I'd say so. In fact, we predicted he would need to make his presence felt before this game was even played.
  • I guess 3G and 3A are pretty decent numbers in a playoff game. I mean, it was only his first career 6 point playoff game... no big deal. 2 of his goals came during special teams play too: 1 SHG and 1 PPG.
  • The Flyers are the first team in the NHL to have 2 players with hat tricks in a single playoff game since the LA Kings did in 1990.
  • I think everything about Ilya Bryzgalov is HUMANGOUS BIG. Especially his glove tonight.

  • That's about right, no?

    • The video below is guaranteed to get you all hot and bothered. I will say this now: this glove save will go down as the best of these entire playoffs.

    • His 23 saves on 28 shots against don't look good on the stat sheet, but Bryz was an important reason why the Flyers won this game. It was saves like the ones above that kept the Flyers alive all night.
    • On the Penguins end, Sidney Crosby scored his 2nd goal of the series, coming in the 1st period yet again. However, he disappeared after that, similar to Game 1.
    • Evgeni Malkin, despite having 2 assists, finished the game as a -4, and was absolutely shut down by Sean Couturier. I still can't believe how incredible Couts played tonight. He has been such an intrical part of this series so far for the Flyers.
    • Kris Letang is just like the rest of them. He got called for another head-jerking dive (unsportsmanlike conduct) and a delay of game. John Tortorella was right about this organization.

    What does it all mean?

The Flyers now have a stranglehold on this series. They're in the Penguins' heads. Pittsburgh knows there is no safe lead, and the Flyers right now are exploiting every one of their weaknesses.

The Flyers are in a great position, taking the 2-0 series lead back to Philly. All I can say is that I can't wait til Sunday.
