One game down, two to go.   Clearly the Ducks will need to do better than their first effort that ended up in a 5-4 loss in shootout to the Phoenix Coyotes. You would think a hat trick from Andrew Cogliano would have propelled the team forward to another win, but no such luck.  Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith had a lot to do with the Phoenix win, as well.  Smith stopped 31 shots including all three Anaheim shots in the shootout. Cogliano caught Smith just :21 seconds into the game to make it 1-0.   A power play saw Anaheim spend the entire two minutes in the Coyotes zone.  They garnered eight shots on goal, but Smith refused to yield.   The momentum from that penalty kill carried over and Phoenix tied up the game at 10:30.  Matthew Lombardi was the beneficiary of a weird bounce off the boards.  The puck went straight to his stick and then he put it behind Viktor Fasth.  For a long time neither side looked like they were going to budge or give up any goals.  Then that c...

Sullivan ends goal drought at perfect time

GLENDALE, Ariz. Steve Sullivan has murdered a dozen innocent sticks over the past six weeks choked the life out of every feeble blade. "You don't think you have as much time as you do, you're trying to rush pucks...

Ducks face Coyotes for second straight time

PHOENIX In nearly four decades around professional hockey, Bruce Boudreau has seen a lot of strange things. But the coach can't remember seeing a team play consecutive games on the road in the same city during the regular season, something his division-leading Ducks will do Monday night when they meet the Phoenix Coyotes for the second time in three nights in Arizona. "...

Steve Palumbo: Why Corey? Why?

There appears to be a growing belief that Anaheim Ducks star winger Corey Perry wants to test the free-agent market this summer and that even if he wanted to stay Anaheim simply couldn't afford to keep both he and captain Ryan Getzlaf. It is believed the Ducks and Getzlaf are closing in on an extension while no progress is being made with Perry. It seems the 27-year-old bachelor...

Great Golden Getzlafs.

I recently picked up a couple of short-printed gold parallels of Ryan Getzlaf. The pair combined ran me less than half a blaster. First up, a gold parallel /25 from 2012-2013 Upper Deck Artifacts.Numbered 01/25 - oh snap, an eBay 1/1 - it's a welcome addition to my collection of The Captain. I always love cardboard that features my favorite player donning the Captain's C...

Ducks Hangs on to Defeat Minnesota

The wins keep coming for the Ducks.  Some have been come from behind.  Some have been dominant games.  The one against Minnesota on Friday night was hang on by a thread. It matters not how they were won, but that they were won at all and Anaheim's 15-3-1 record is the second best in the NHL behind only Chicago (who appears incapable of losing in regulation ever this season...
