The Phoenix Coyotes gave up on the unfulfilled potential of center Kyle Turris on Saturday, trading him to the Ottawa Senators for defenseman David Rundblad and a second-round draft choice in 2012. Turris, the third-overall selection in the 2007 draft, never developed into the frontline center the Coyotes envisioned. In 137 career games, he scored 19 goals and had 27 assists. He held out for nearly two months this season, originally asking for a three-year, 12 million deal, in hopes of forcing the Coyotes to trade him. He agreed to terms in late November on a two-year, 2.8 million and appeared in six games for the Coyotes without scoring. Rundblad, 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds, played in 23 games with Ottawa this season, his first as a professional, and registered one goal, three assists and six penalty minutes. The 21-year-old from Lycksele, Sweden, was originally drafted by St. Louis with the 17th pick in the first round of the 2009 draft. We are very excited to have David join our organization, Coyotes general manager Don Maloney said in a prepared statement. He is a young, highly skilled defenseman with superior offensive sense. We look forward to David joining us in the desert and becoming an important player for us in the future. Rundblad had 11 goals and 39 assists last season for the Skelleftea HC team in Sweden.
