St. Louis Blues captain David Backes was ejected from Friday night's game at Joe Louis Arena after receiving a match penalty for allegedly delivering an illegal hit to the head of Detroit Red Wings defenseman Kent Huskins. However, it would appear that the Blues got the short end of a horrendous call by NHL referees Chris Lee and Ian Walsh, as replay clearly shows Backes hit Huskins in the chest and not the head. The call came at a critical time of the game, with the score tied at 3-3 and 10:22 remaining in the third period. The Red Wings scored on the ensuing power play and won the game 5-3. Seems like a terrible call to us and probably should have been reviewed by the officials on the ice. MSG network's Al Trautwig probably would have had this to say: H/T Puck Daddy.
