Red Wings fans should be rooting for …
Home teams. The Canucks-Predators result should have minimal impact on the Wings — Vancouver’s headed toward a division crown and Nashville’s nine back of Detroit. But those other four games loom large.
If all four of the remaining home teams (Chicago, Colorado, Calgary and Phoenix) win, then Detroit would …
1. Maintain its two-point lead on Dallas, while the Stars would lose the game-in-hand edge they currently have.
2. Maintain its two-point lead on Columbus, plus the Wings will have a game in hand on the Blue Jackets.
3. Stay one point back of Minnesota, with the Wings and Wild both having played 42 games.
4. Stay within two points of San Jose, with the Sharks’ game in hand also vanishing.
The flip side of that is obviously not as rosy. The worst-case scenario for tonight is that the Wings fall back into a ninth-place tie with Columbus, two points back of Dallas, three back of Minnesota and four behind the Sharks.

As Paul noted, the CBC's Elliotte Friedman posited his weekly "30 Thoughts" column this afternoon, and one of his "thoughts" should put Red Wings fans at some ease:

It’s a fair question to ask.
Detroit is playing for their playoff lives and in danger of missing the postseason for the first time since the 89-90’ season. That’s before Lidstrom made his way to Detroit and back when Head Coach Mike Babcock was 2-years removed from his minor league hockey career that ended in 1988 with the Whitley Warriors.
In fact it’s been so long since...

Those of you who watched Saint Cloud State University play in the Frozen Four, or in any college hockey game this season, probably noticed that a significant chunk of their roster sported shoulder-length hair under their helmets.

Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg have had to shoulder more of the burden than ever before. Detroit's dearth of high-end young talent after years of drafting either poorly or out of range of the best kids has finally began to impact its lineup. Injuries have hurt. Damien Brunner got hot and then he cooled. Jonas Gustavsson...
The Red Wings signed former Western Michigan defenseman Danny DeKeyser hoping to boost their back line.
