The Red Wings are back at home tonight where they will play 7 of their last 10 games. Tonight they play the struggling Capitals who are in a fight to hold onto the last playoff spot in the east. 20 points left. 8 behind St. Louis. Tied with Nashville. Screwed by our shootout wins. Puck drops at 7:30pm on FSD Click the jump for more Tonight we could witness something special, as Josh noted earlier Gustav Nyquist will be playing on a line with Datsyuk and Bertuzzi. I am extremely happy that Babbles is giving goose a shot with the big boys. After all he did just set the Griffins rookie scoring record. Good news on the injury front as Johan Franzen and Nick Lidstrom are making progress. Franzen will try returning later this week. There still is no return timeline set for Lidstrom, but he did skate this morning for longer than he has and reports that his ankle is feeling better but still has some swelling. In the not so good news department Helm had an MRI this morning...

Lidstrom better, Howard out for Wings

DETROIT -- It was a mixed bag of news at Red Wings practice Tuesday. Captain Nick Lidstrom skated for the second day in a row, goalie Jimmy Howard didnt practice because his groin has flared up again, and Ty Conklin will start in net Wednesday in New York against the Rangers if he clears re-entry waivers. Other than that, it was just a typical day for the Wings. Were hopeful that...

Oh swell: further clarification needed for Red Wings goaltender Joey MacDonald’s back issue

Red Wings back-up goaltender Joey MacDonald had an MRI today thanks to both back spasms and “shooting pains” down his legs starting during last Wednesday’s game in Anaheim, but the Red Wings released no information regarding his status during the morning skate (and that particular post will continue to be updated till near game time due to late-breaking gnus), nor did the Wings...

The Washington Capitals — Time To Throw In the Towel?

A little more than a week ago, an article entitled “The Washington Capitals — Hanging By A Thread” chronicled half a dozen reasons why the Capitals playoff chances were fading quickly.  Since that date, there’s been little, if any reason, to change that opinion.  There are certainly those who will argue that over the period since the 9th of March, the Capitals have a 3...

It Stopped Being Funny A While Ago, Howard Hurt

Whoever mocked the injury gods, please start apologizing immediately.  This is getting ridiculous.  Goaltender Jimmy Howard, who missed three games this month with a strained groin, has suffered a relapse. Not only that, but there's a chance that Conklin will be picked up through waivers too if some team wants to screw us.  What does that leave?  Here's Khan to explain...

Detroit Red Wings return home after dismal road trip

Home cooking will be a more than welcome sign for the Detroit Red Wings.  After a four game road trip in which the Wings failed to record a win and tallied just one point, they return to Joe Louis Arena to play seven of their last ten games. While the Red Wings were struggling to put anything together, their division counterpart St Louis Blues were busy becoming the first NHL team...

Ovechkin scores 2, Caps beat Wings 5-3

Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals produced some of their best hockey of the season. The Detroit Red Wings seem to be at their worst these days. Ovechkin scored twice and the Washington Capitals held on for a 5-3 win Monday night over the injury-plagued Red Wings, who lost their fifth straight. The Capitals led 3-0 after the first 20 minutes. ''That was probably...

Rapid Rewind: Big(ish) Red Machine

The Washington Capitals pulled out one of the most improbable victories of their season on Monday night, beating a team that had only lost four times in regulation in their own building, the Detroit Red Wings, by a 5-3 final score.  The Capitals got two goals from Alex Ovechkin and one each from Jason Chimera, Keith Aucoin, and Mike Knuble (KNOOOOOOOBS) in their winning effort...

March Movie Poster Madness: Round 7 - Stare Down

After a long day and other sad game last night, let's see who came out the winner of yesterday's battle. Victorious with 53.7 percent of the vote is Ugly Coyotes.  Up today is #7 Mike Babcock in For a Few Wins More vs. #10 Todd Bertuzzi in Bertinator, Judgement Day. Voting after the jump.  Round #7: Which Poster Is Better? I hope Detroit wins a game before the...

Capitals Road Gear

Look, we all need to hit the road sometimes.  Whether it is business, holidays, or a simple getaway, we all are forced to leave the comfy confines of our home at some point.  The Washington Capitals know this better than anyone, as they find themselves on the road quite a bit.  Always the considerate bunch, they have decided to help out in the designing of some equipment that...

Rapid Rewind: Irene

The Washington Capitals were utterly outclassed by a superior hockey team on Sunday night, beaten down by a 5-2 score inside the Madhouse on Madison.  The Caps trailed 2-0 after only seven minutes and never recovered.  They got goals from Alex Ovechkin and Mike Knuble to make it a tad more interesting in the second period, but by that time, the game was for the most part over...

Blachawks Unload On Capitals, Stay Hot

The Rangers report that Artem Anisimov said he felt great at practice today, but it is up to the coach whether he plays or not....Torts usually defers to the medical staff on injuries so if they clear him expect to see AA back in the line-up tonight....if AA returns, the question is who sits?
