The New Jersey Devils agreed to terms with veteran right wing Petr Sykora on a one-year contract Wednesday. The deal is worth $500,000 for Sykora, who has not played in the NHL since undergoing abdominal surgery in February 2010, when he was with the Minnesota Wild. Sykora, 34, was brought in by the Devils on a tryout basis and scored a pair of goals in four preseason games. A first-round draft pick of the Devils in 1995, he spent his first seven seasons with New Jersey, scoring a career-high 35 goals in 2000-01. In 935 career games, Sykora had 305 goals and 375 assists. The Devils also named Zach Parise as the team captain Wednesday. Ilya Kovalchuk and Patrik Elias were named assistant captains.
