Running With The Devils:
New Jersey rolled into Edmonton and for the first 40 minutes of the game, looked the best I’ve seen them look in a long time and I am including games from the end of last season in that statement. The, for some reason, the Devils decided not to show up for the 3rd period and in an 8 minute time period, they watched (they literally stood around watching it happen) a 3-0 lead turn into a 4-3 deficit. If it was for a lucky bounce of the puck played from the stick of Elias off an Oilers skate, the Devils would have squandered away both points in last night’s game. This was a game where I was feeling great about what the future could hold for this team that turned into complete disgust.
Some more thoughts from last night:
* Jagr got his first as a Devil. It was a typical Jagr like goal, carry the puck into the zone, cross to the middle, shoot and score. It has to be a relief to Jagr to finally get the monkey off his back. I know it’s only the Devils third game but as a goal scor...

What happens when you lose the most prolific player in the league?
As the New Jersey Devils are proving, you stumble out of the gate. Lou Lamoriello went out and fetched talented players including Michael Ryder and Damien Brunner in the off-season, but it seems that his team still can’t get over the loss of Ilya Kovalchuk.
New Jersey made a daring move by trading for Kovalchuk...
Taylor Hall can understand fans’ frustration.
Things were bad in Edmonton long before he showed up on the scene as the first piece of the rebuilding puzzle.
But even Hall admits getting booed off the ice after the second period in the second home game of the season Monday seemed harsh. Good thing the Edmonton Oilers came back to beat the New Jersey Devils 5-4 in a shootout to...
The Edmonton Oilers certainly didn't take the easy route to their first win of the season.
Jordan Eberle and David Perron scored in the shootout for the Oilers, who erased a three-goal deficit in the third period against goalie Martin Brodeur and beat the New Jersey Devils 5-4 on Monday night.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Andrew Ference, Perron, and Taylor Hall all scored their first...
New Jersey Devils goaltender Cory Schneider doesn't plan to get emotional about his return to Vancouver on Tuesday night when he'll share the spotlight with former teammate Roberto Luongo.
''We're there less than 24 hours. Gotta play a game, gotta win a game. I'm not going to get all nostalgic,'' Schneider said Monday.
He'll get the start against...
The script is seven years old.
Fans in Edmonton have seen it a hundred times before.
The Oilers start slow. Lethargic second period. Mediocre goaltending. Come to life in the third period. Make a game of it. Make a late costly mistake. Lose.
You can set your NHL entry draft by the tragic and well-worn storyline.
And Monday at night against the New Jersey Devils they followed...
Jaromir Jagr missed the New Jersey Devils' preseason with what was probably a groin injury, and his performances in his first two regular season games involved a single shot taken in 15:40 played against Pittsurgh last Thursday (the Devils lost 3-0) and a -2 and a shot in 13:40 played against the Islanders on Friday (the Devils lost 4-3 in a shootout).
The New York Times'...
He’s back. The Nuge makes his long awaited, much anticipated, healthy return to the Edmonton Oilers’ lineup Monday night against the New Jersey Devils. No one, not one person could be more relieved than Taylor Hall, not even Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Hall has had a good run playing first line centre, but it’s not a role the young winger relishes, nor is it something that Hall could...
There was no denying that Cory Schneider wanted to beat his former Vancouver Canuck teammates Tuesday night.
More than that though the Devils goaltender wanted to get his team its first win of the season.
Fittingly it came down to a duel between Schneider and his old goaltending partner Roberto Luongo that needed overtime to be decided. Defenseman Jason Garrison gave Vancouver...
If problems were people, the Edmonton Oilers would be China. Two losses into the season the puck possession statistics are horrendous, the powerplay has given up as many goals as itâs scored, the Taylor Hall at center experiment was a horrible failure, and Devan Dubnyk couldnât stop a greased pig from running into a dishwasher. Who takes the brunt of it? Who suffers for...
Move over Movember.
Edmonton Oilers’ winger Mike Brown has sported a fashionable mustache in many forms during his career, and his 2013 handlebar lip sweater is finally getting the recognition it deserves — Brown has been nominated for the 2013 Robert Goulet Memorial Mustached American of the Year Award.
The prestigious award is organized by the American Mustache Institute,...
