Ducks 4, Islanders 2

Associated Press  |  Last updated January 07, 2012
Ryan Getzlaf scored the go-ahead goal late in the third period, Bobby Ryan had two goals and the Anaheim Ducks beat the New York Islanders 4-2 Friday night to end a three-game skid. Jonas Hiller stopped 19 shots to earn his 99th NHL career victory for the Ducks, who avoided their second four-game losing streak of the season. The Islanders led 2-1 early in the third on a goal by Kyle Okposo only to have the Ducks score the game's final three goals and end New York's three-game winning streak in a matchup of two teams next-to-last in their respective divisions. Evgeni Nabokov made 16 saves for the Islanders, leaving him two wins away from 300. Ryan tied the game at 2 with the second short-handed goal of his career at 9:22 of the third, fighting off two defenders as he closed in on the net. With Anaheim's Cam Fowler and New York's PA Parenteau serving penalties, Getzlaf scored 4-on-4 with a shot in the top of the net at 12:25 that gave Anaheim a 3-2 lead. Teemu Selanne scored his 12th goal on a rebound in front of the net to make it 4-2 at 17:06. Kyle Okposo gave New York a 2-1 lead at 6:20 of the third. New York tied the game 1-1 at 16:04 of the second period. Hiller lay on his right side in the net as Matt Martin swooped around from the right side and went for the puck resting on the goal line. Before he could get to it, Hiller's glove nudged it across the line. The Ducks led 1-0 on Ryan's rebound in front of the crease at 14:18, nine seconds after Anaheim's power play ended. The Islanders outshot the Ducks 8-3 in the scoreless first when there were no penalties. Notes: Ducks RW George Parros missed the game because of a strained groin. ... The teams played for the first time since the Islanders won 3-2 on Dec. 16, 2010. ... The Islanders are 5-3-4 against Western Conference opponents this season. ... Islanders D Travis Hamonic played in his 100th consecutive game, the team's first player to do so since Janne Niinimaa played 136 in a row ending in the 2005-06 season. ... Anaheim's first short-handed goal of the season left Calgary as the only team without one.
