The Anaheim Ducks have acquired center David Steckel from Toronto in exchange for right wing Ryan Lasch and a seventh-round pick in the 2014 draft.
The Ducks announced the deal Friday.
The 6-foot-6 Steckel has scored 73 points in 398 games over eight NHL seasons with Washington, New Jersey and the Maple Leafs. He played for the Capitals under Bruce Boudreau, now the Ducks' coach.
Steckel excels on faceoffs and penalty killing, two areas of need for Anaheim.
The Maple Leafs needed to clear a roster spot with Joffrey Lupul returning from a broken right arm. Toronto acquired Steckel from the Devils in October 2011.
Lasch played 19 games for the Ducks' AHL affiliate in Norfolk this season, and most recently played for Vaxjo in the Swedish Elite League.

A few people didn’t like that I suggested that Jay McClement was a bad player in yesterday’s Mikhail Grabovski post so I thought I would provide a visual representation of McClement’s mediocrity in the form of 5v5 Zone Start adjusted CF% WOWY charts for each of the past 6 seasons (this season included). Let’s start with [...]The post Visual WOWY representation of Jay McClement’s...
from Eric Stephens of Ducks Blog,
Corey Perry figured that he would receive some form of discipline from the NHL for his hit on Minnesota's Jason Zucker and the possibility of him being out of the Ducks' lineup was realistic.
But a four-game suspension? That one didn't enter the winger's mind.
"I think it’s caught a lot of people off guard,"...
Ryan Getzlaf scored in the third round of the shootout and Jonas Hiller made 33 saves to help lead the Anaheim Ducks to a 2-1 victory over the Dallas Stars on Thursday.
Andrew Cogliano scored in regulation for Anaheim, which has won five in a row and gone nine games without a regulation defeat (7-0-2).
Despite missing star Corey Perry, who was serving the first of a four-game suspension...
Nick Kypreos and Doug MacLean of Sportsnet discuss the Leafs trading Kessel. Anaheim, Detroit, Pittsburgh and Vancouver are listed as possible cities Kessel could land.
I purchased a redemption from eBay a long time ago for a Dominion on-card auto numbered out of 50 of Ducks' winger Bobby Ryan. Dominion is my favorite hockey product, Bobby is my second favorite hockey player, and the price was right, so it was a win-win-win for me. I waited and waited and waited some more until I finally found out from Panini that the cards had been lost somewhere...
Undefeated at home for more than a month, the Anaheim Ducks are also finding ways to win on the road.
The Ducks look to conclude a three-game trip with a sixth straight victory overall and second in seven days over the surging St. Louis Blues on Saturday night.
Anaheim (20-3-3) was mired in an 0-1-2 road stretch before posting consecutive 2-1 victories at Minnesota and Dallas....

The last Pens/Leafs game from a few days ago was an entertaining contest, except for the Malkin injury of course. The Pens needed a shootout to triumph over the Leafs last time. What will happen tonight with the Pens looking to win seven...
