The Edmonton Oilers (3-10-2) and the Florida Panthers (3-8-3) came into the game tonight, both losing the past five games. At least coming into this game, one team would be able to end their losing streak. All four goals from the Edmonton Oilers were the first of such this season by each player; Philip Larsen, Mark Arcobello (2 goals), Taylor Fedun. Philip Larsen’s first goal of the season comes in his second game of the season. In the American Hockey League with their affiliated team, Oklahoma City Barons, Larsen has 7 points in just 7 games. Philip Larsen came to Edmonton over the off-season on a trade which saw the Oilers’ former captain, Shawn Horcoff, being sent to the Dallas Stars. Mark Arcobello hasn’t had any issues getting points with the Oilers, just scoring. Arcobello came into the game leading the club in assists with 10 assists, and came into the game tied for points with his 10 points. Arcobello now has a couple goals to add to his stats on the season. Taylor Fedun skating in practice. (Credit EOHC) The most impressive of goals came from Taylor Fedun. After breaking his right femur back in 2011, it was unsure whether he would ever make it back to the NHL level again. Fortunately, he made a speedy recovery and was able to play with the Oklahoma City Barons for the 2012-13 season. After a series of injuries for the Oilers, Fedun received his opportunity once again to play in the NHL. In his first game back, Fedun was able to score his first NHL goal.  The Edmonton Oilers came into the third period with a 3-1 lead. Florida Panthers’ Scottie Upshall scored two goals in the third period. His second goal happened to be with 58 seconds remaining in the game, sending it into overtime. Upshall’s penalty in overtime resulted in the Edmonton Oilers scoring the goal, ending the game, and snapping their 5 game losing streak. Noteable: Boyd Gordon had three helpers on the game, while Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had two himself. After losing the past two games by a cumulative score of 9-0, the Oilers hope to use this game as a momentum booster as they face opponents such as the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Chicago Blackhawks. The Oilers play at Tampa Bay against the Lightning on Thursday at 5:30MST.
