“Everyone wants to know” what is up with the San Jose Sharks.  They signed a new player! Oh, people don’t mean the Stalberg signing?  Okay then. “Everyone wants to know” might be putting it too strongly, but anyone who’s anyone has noticed that the Sharks are playing way way WAY below expectations. The players reassure us that they are engaging in the recommended amount of yelling during and after a game, even if they seem calm in front of the cameras.  That’s good to know.  Maybe someone should set up a noise meter in the room just to be sure. Sharks’ Offense Has Gone South Since McGinn Trade

from Kevin Kurz of CSNBAYAREA, The Sharks have just 12 goals since the trade, or 1.50 per game. Compare that to the eight previous games with McGinn still in the lineup, and San Jose had 24, or 3.0 per game. Simply put, this is a team that, as it stands right now, doesn’t have enough scorers. If it misses the postseason tournament for the first time since 2003, the McGinn trade...

Snakebitten Sharks slipping out of playoffs

Entering the season, the San Jose Sharks were penciled in as the Pacific Division favorites. As a Western Conference powerhouse who fell just a few wins away from the Stanley Cup last season, there was no reason to doubt the talented bunch. Couple their already good team with the additions of Martin Havlat and Brent Burns and nobody would predict this team would actually have scoring...

Predators fall to Sharks in shootout

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- Antti Niemi finally got comfortable when he started seeing more shots on goal. He made several huge stops in regulation and saved his best for last, stopping Nashville's last chance during the shootout. Ryane Clowe scored in a shootout and Niemi came up with a big save against David Legwand to give the San Jose Sharks a 2-1 victory over the Predators...

The Ides of March are come (and gone)

The Sharks earned two important points by beating Nashville, but it was a bigger win than two points indicates.  Nashville is a good team, a strong team, a major player these days: Darin Stephens ‏ @SharksStats: “Entering last night: Nashville 29 wins when scoring first, 26 wins when leading after two periods (both 5th in NHL). #GoodWinByTheSharks” Beating the Predators was...

Cam Gore: Clutch win for Sharks in overtime

The San Jose Sharks got a goal on the power play, a shootout goal, and more importantly clutch goaltending from Antti Niemi in a 2-1 victory over the Nashville Predators. “Nemo made a huge save on Legwand in the third period” said Coach McLellan said after the game “He’s got to leave the rink feeling good about his game.” It was a close low scoring...

Havlat Returns After Missing Almost Three Months

via David Pollak of the Mercury News, The Sharks have activated forward Marty Havlat for Thursday’s game against the Nashville Predators. Havlat has been on injured reserve since undergoing surgery to repair a partly torn hamstring tendon on Dec. 21 and the Sharks have been counting on his return for their stretch run and the post-season that may follow. “He’s excited,...

Red Wings-Sharks Preview

The San Jose Sharks have qualified for seven consecutive postseasons and eliminated the Detroit Red Wings in each of the last two en route to the Western Conference finals. The Sharks have some work to do if they want to add to that playoff streak, and they'll try to help themselves Saturday night by taking advantage of the short-handed Red Wings' struggles on the road....

Cam Gore: Flames need an extra frame to take down the Sharks

The Sharks came away with one point in Calgary after Matt Stajan scored in overtime with 0:40 seconds remaining in a 3-2 win to end the Sharks four game road trip. “One is better than none” quipped Todd McLellan after the game “but that’s not what our goal was. I thought we played well enough to get two but we’re not going home with them.” The...

Game 70: Nashville @ San Jose – “Frenzied” Pace

Photo by John Russell/NHLI via Getty Images Judging by the score on February 25th, the last time Nashville and San Jose met, it looked like a thorough dismantling of the Sharks. But for those in attendance, it was a nerve racking affair that saw San Jose push the Predators the entire last period and make it a nail-biting effort. An empty net goal and an afterthought goal from Spaling...

Predators-Sharks Preview

With only one road game over the next two weeks, the San Jose Sharks would seem to have a decent chance of separating themselves from the throng of teams fighting for the last few playoff spots in the Western Conference. Securing points at HP Pavilion this month, however, hasn't been easy. The sputtering Sharks try to avoid extending their longest home losing streak of the...
