Early in the first period of the Toronto Maple Leafs-Winnipeg Jets game on Tuesday night, Colton Orr and Chris Thorburn got into it.  This was a true heavyweight tilt with Orr weighing in at 6’3″ 222 lbs and Thorburn checking in at 6’3″ 230 lbs.  Thorburn did a good job of keeping Orr at bay early, but once Orr was able to wriggle his arm free by getting his sleeve off, Thorburn was in trouble.  It was all Thorburn could do to avoid the bombs that Orr was throwing and he did his best to try and tie Orr up to get the fight to end.  Thorburn wanted no part of Orr after he got his arm free and it’s safe to say Orr won this bout. Chris Thorburn Not Happy With Colton Orr

from Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free Press, Thorburn, however, is beloved in the Jets dressing room for his willingness to stand up for teammates. So when Orr slighted him near the end of what until then had been an honourable exchange, the rest of the Jets took notice. With less than three minutes expired in the game, the two big men engaged. Orr's jersey came...

Maple Leafs? Lupul finally nearing return

Joffrey Lupul may not be all that far from making his way back into the Toronto lineup. According to Michael Traikos of the National Post, the 29-year old forward was taking one-timers prior to practice today and looks "real close" to returning to action. He later noted that Lupul was taking turns skating with a line of Nikolai Kulemin, Mikhail Grabovski and Leo Komarov...

Clarke MacArthur Comparables…

Yesterday I posted an article on comparable players to Tyler Bozak so today I thought I’d tackle the Maple Leafs other key free agent forward, Clarke MacArthur. As with Bozak, I first looked at the offensive stats Goals/60, FirstAssists/60, Primary Points/60 and Primary Points % (percentage of goals scored while on the ice that the player [...]The post Clarke MacArthur Comparables…...

Toronto Maple Leafs: Suffering three straight losses

When I heard that the Toronto Maple Leafs lost a thriller to Pittsburgh in a shoot out, I was quite pleased that they got at least one point.  After all, their next opponent would be the Winnipeg Jets.  A team that has been struggling lately. I thought for sure that Leafs would get an easy two points off the Jets.  Wrong. At a time where I didn’t want Winnipeg’s goalie, Ondrej...

How About Luongo To Toronto Now?

from Damien Cox of The Spin, This is NOT an attempt to stir up a new round of Roberto Luongo-to-Toronto rumours. Honest. Just spitballing, noodling on a scrap of paper, so everyone relax. Just thinking, however, that nobody's fooling anybody here anymore. Vancouver, falling in the Western Conference standings, needs help at positions more than they need a backup goalie...

Talking Leafs, Columbus, Penguins And Colorado

Scott Cullen has notes on the Maple Leafs' defence, Columbus' goaltending, the top-scoring lines in hockey and money well-spent in Colorado. THE CONSTANT GARDINER Leave it to a three-game losing streak and an article doubting that they can maintain their strong start for controversy to find the Toronto Maple Leafs. Jake Gardiner's agent, Ben Hankinson, took...

The Winnipeg Jets Are A Hard Team To Figure Out

from Paul Friesen of the Winnipeg Sun, Winnipeg has been outscored (16-23) in the first, but they tend to even it up (24-17) in the second. That's when things get interesting. The Jets have given up 32 third-period goals, the fourth-worst mark in the league, while scoring 20. But send them to overtime and they'll do an about-face: they're a perfect 3-0, behind...
