Over the last month I have been carefully watch Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Francois Beauchemin. In regards to his playing time, any nagging injuries that might go unheard, all inside resources I have and several twitter feeds. After a month I do feel that if there is a player on the Maple Leafs to be traded, I feel that there is a higher probability of Beauchemin being sent out. This info comes from Ron Wilson being somewhat cautious with the veteran defenseman, having him play less minutes in the 3rd period. Beauchemin then gave GM Brian Burke a list of 12 teams he would not mine playing for, which the San Jose Sharks was included on that list. Then I see multiple signs from team like the Sharks, Kings, Ducks and Habs being interested in Beauchemin’s services.
Other defenseman that could very well be traded before the Feburary 28th trading deadline other than Beauchemin is; teammate Tomas Kaberle, Robyn Regehr, Chris Phillips, Bryan McCabe and Joni Pitkanen.
Another interesting rumor that occurred during the month of January was the desire of Brian Burke to acquire Luke Schenn’s brother Brayden Schenn. The trade rumor looked like this;
Toronto Sends
Kris Versteeg
Francois Beauchemin
High Prospect (not named Kadri) or 2nd round pick
LA Kings Send
Brayden Schenn
Now all Maple Leafs fans would like that trade to happen, but here is another rumor that was more realistic, that I still would like to see this happen. Beauchemin straight up for Devin Setoguchi.
