“Hey, remember the 90s? I sure do!” Holy crap, you gotta be kidding me. Speaking about his squad’s big 3-1 win over the New York Rangers on Thursday, Florida Panthers head coach Kevin Dineen busted out a dated reference for the ages. So egregious, in fact, that we are left to wonder if something so traumatic occurred to him in the late ’90s that it permanently damaged his psyche and left the former NHL player permanently stuck in 1997. Yep, Kevin Dineen utilized lyrics from “Tubthumping,” the 1997 hit song from Chumbawamba. And here I was just pissing the night away. As reported in the Miami Herald, via Eye on Hockey: “That’s Chumbawamba right there,” Dineen said, referencing the British band from the 1990s. “You get knocked down and get right back up. We’re beat up. We have a lot of bodies out, people at home watching. Kopecky wanted to get right back in the fight.” Wow, what a bizarre, dated and disconcerting reference, especially for an NHL coach. And for anyone that reads SoB regularly, you guys know I speak from experience when discussing dated pop culture references. Riffing on “Tubthumping” lyrics? Seriously? That’s as bad as repeatedly making nonsensical references to Boz Scaggs over and over and over again. Not that I would know anything about that kind of nonsense. And if anyone thought for one second that they were going to sneak out of here without being presented the opportunity to get that song stuck in your head, cursing the song and yours truly for the balance of the day? You’d be sadly mistaken. TweetThe post Florida Panthers head coach Kevin Dineen made an odd Chumbawamba reference appeared first on Sportress of Blogitude.
