The NHL breaking news tonight is a trade that will send former Bruin's winger Michael Ryder to the Montreal Canadiens. Ryder's name had surfaced recently as a potential Bruins target to help bolster their offensive attack. But those talks are now officially over.
It is being reported that the Canadiens got Ryder from Dallas in exchange for forward Erik Cole. This is a great trade for many reasons, firstly that Ryder is a great player and secondly that it will free up a large amount of cap space for the Canadiens. It certainly stings to see such a great move pulled off by the Habs.
Ryder is returning to his old stomping grounds. He came into the league as a Canadien and played there for four seasons, during which he put up consistent offensive numbers, including two thirty goal seasons. Ryder then played three seasons as a Bruin, and was a key contributor throughout the 2011 season that ended with a Cup.
