Preview: What a weird season for the Caps. They just couldn’t do anything right under Bruce Boudreau, so they fired him. They still can’t do anything right under Dale Hunter, playing slightly over-.500 hockey. The only positive for the Caps is that Alex Ovechkin seems to finally be getting on the right track, as he’s been his usual self under Hunter.

The main difference between the Caps now and the Caps then is that the Caps now are a forechecking team that will pressure the puck carrier. The Caps then were a trapping team. The Alex’s (Ovechkin and Semin) still don’t back check much, and their defense is suspect. Tomas Vokoun has been much better in net for the Caps though, so it’s not going to be a cake walk.

Crazy Thought: Three games in a row with a powerplay goal? I think they can, I think they can.

Bruins Must Find Way to Prevent Rangers Defense From Blocking Boston’s Path to Victory

BOSTON – Henrik Lundqvist is putting together a Vezina-worthy campaign for the Rangers. The New York netminder is tied for the NHL lead with a .939 save percentage and second with a 1.81 goals-against average. He’s also 10th with 1,150 saves. But Lundqvist could rank a lot higher in that last category if he didn’t have the benefit of playing behind a corps of Rangers defensemen...

Serby's Sunday Q & A with... Henrik Lundqvist

Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist saved some time recently to chat with Post columnist Steve Serby. Q: What special quality do you think this year’s team has that maybe others haven’t had? A: We’ve been a hard-working team, but what I feel this year is we’re a...

Credit Where It’s Due

The NHL universe is starting to acknowledge what Rangers fans have known for quite some time. The Rangers have the best goaltending in the NHL. TSN published goaltending rankings this week and the Rangers ranked first, ahead of the Boston Bruins tandem of Thomas and Rask. With Henrik Lundqvist having a Vezina calibre year and Martin Biron posting career high numbers as well, the...

Rangers’ Best Players Come Through in Win Over the Flyers

When it comes to any professional sport, you always want the best players on your team to play like the best and come up big when they need to. This happened for the New York Rangers this afternoon in their 5-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers at the Wells Fargo Center. For the Rangers, it was their fifth straight victory over the Flyers this season. The reason why the Rangers...

@TheBroadwayHat Talks Broadway Hat

Good friend of the blog, @TheBroadwayHat, recently sat down with Jim Cerny at Blueshirts United to discuss the Rangers chemistry building fedora. Here's an excerpt...- Could Lundqvist Retire the Broadway Hat with his amazing play: "To be permanently painted on Lundqvist's goalie mask, I think, would be the perfect way to retire the Broadway Hat one day!"- Will the...

New York Rangers: Why they will win the Stanley Cup

The New York Rangers are currently the best team in their conference. Entering today, they have 75 points to lead the Eastern Conference and only one point away from the best record in the entire NHL. How are they doing it? Goal tending, timely scoring and depth.First, they are led by their wall in front of the net, Henrik Lundqvist. His 1.81 Goals Against average is second in the...

Rangers' power play one major weakness

Sitting atop the Eastern Conference with 71 points, the New York Rangers have a lot to be proud of, especially their stingy team defense, which starts with goaltender Henrik Lundqvist. But the Rangers' strong first 52 games has masked a team Achilles heel: one of the NHL's worst power plays. As the team grinds through late winter and battles for the Eastern Conference regular...

Rangers/Flyers In Review

Another day, another game against the Flyers, another win against the Flyers. That makes it five for five against the Blueshirts against their division rivals. This game was owned by Callahan, Richards, and Gaborik, but special teams were the difference. The Rangers killed off all four of their penalties, and capitalized on three (THREE!) powerplay opportunities. Let’s get to the...

Rangers 5, Flyers 2

Ryan Callahan scored three goals, helping the New York Rangers continue their dominance over Philadelphia with a 5-2 victory on Saturday. Marian Gaborik and Artem Anisimov also had goals for the Eastern Conference-leading Rangers, who've won seven straight against the Flyers. It was a rare display on special teams that catapulted the Rangers to their second victory over Philadelphia...

Postgame: Rangers Beat Caps, Distance Themselves from Rest of East

I said going into this game that a four-point weekend would be huge for the first place New York Rangers, and as usual, they did not disappoint with a solid 3-2 win over the Washington Capitals at Madison Square Garden. The reason it is so huge is because the Blueshirts have now distanced themselves from the rest of the Eastern Conference by creating a seven-point spread between...

8 a.m. ET: The Bruins took a big step toward snapping out of their recent funk with a solid effort in Saturday’s 4-3 shootout win over Western Conference power Nashville.
