MINNEAPOLIS -- Second-ranked Minnesota made quick work of Niagara Friday night, winning 5-1 in the Mariucci Classic in men's hockey action. With the win, the Gophers advanced to the Classic's championship game, Saturday at 6 p.m., against Northeastern. In Friday's Gophers rout, the hosts got goals from Nick Larson, Jake Hansen, Erik Haula, Justin Holl and Zach Budish. Additionally, Minnesota netminder Kent Patterson produced 19 saves to earn the win. The Gophers led, 2-0, after the first period and never looked back. Haula lit the lamp early in the third period, effectively putting the Minnesota win on ice. With the win Minnesota improved to 15-5-1 on the season. Niagara (5-6-6) got its lone goal courtesy of Tyler Matthews.
