Mark Eaton, all 7’4 of him (at least during his playing career) turns 54 today. The one-time All-Star and two-time Defensive Player of the Year was specifically known from his prowess of stuffing other’s shot attempts. In ’84/85 Eaton blocked 5.6 shots per game in 82 games at 34 minutes per.

Upon reading up on Mark Eaton I learned that he averaged only 1.6 ppg in 30 games during his two year college career at UCLA. For about 3 years after graduating high school Mark worked as an auto machanic before beginning his college basketball career at Cypress Junior College. Apparently he was working on a vehicle, was basically as big as the vehicle, and a Cypress JC assistant coach happened to be present and was like ‘oh man we always have room for a 7’4 guy on our roster’.
