SAN JOSE, Calif Josh Hardings injury 2 minutes into the Minnesota Wilds Tuesday night victory against the San Jose Sharks allowed emergency goalie Matt Hackett to enter the game and pick up a win, but it sounds like Harding could be back to work soon. Harding appeared to suffer a neck injury 11 seconds after allowing a goal in the first minute of play. He was hit in the face by teammate Nick Schultz, who was trying to block the Sharks Joe Pavelski from the net. At Wednesdays practice, Wild coach Mike Yeo updated the status of Harding and forward Devin Setoguchi (lower body), who also left Tuesdays game early in the first period and did not return. (Harding) feels a lot better today; (Setoguchi) not as much, Yeo said. Both guys need to be re-evaluated. Starting goalie Nicklas Backstrom missed Tuesdays game with a lingering groin injury but practiced Wednesday and may be ready to return Thursday night when the Wild visit the Kings. He looked really good out there, Yeo said after practice. I havent talked to him since he got off the ice, so I got to meet with him. Hackett, of course, looked really good Tuesday in stopping all 34 shots he faced in his NHL debut. To have that opportunity to come in and play in your first NHL game and all of a sudden you are thrown to the wolves in a situation like that You cant really say enough about how he handled it, Yeo said. Im very excited for him. It was a big moment, and hes worked very hard for that.

A Glimpse of Future Glory

As I sat at my computer yesterday afternoon reading the injury news about Devin Setoguchi, Cal Clutterbuck and Josh Harding I came to the very realistic viewpoint that the Minnesota Wild were primed for a poor performance in Los Angeles. The team was riding high, but they were near the end of a West coast road trip and missing several key players. I told myself a 5-1 loss wouldn...
