All Things Avs:
Detroit Red Wings
VANCOUVER — Avalanche defenseman Stefan Elliott grew up here, and before family and friends, the offensively gifted 20-year-old hopes to bounce back from the struggles he had in Sunday’s 4-2 win against the Detroit Red Wings in tonight’s game against the Canucks. Colorado coach Joe Sacco will again go with an 11-forward, seven-defensemen lineup, with Elliott sharing time with Ryan O’Byrne, Shane O’Brien, Erik Johnson, Jan Hejda, Kyle Quincey and Ryan Wilson.
“Grew up playing all my minor hockey here,” Elliott said after this morning’s skate at Rogers Arena. “It’s definitely pretty special, growing up watching the Canucks all the time, finally stepping foot on the ice. Playing against them (will be) pretty special.”
Elliott logged just 8:57 of ice time against the Red Wings, in the first game back for Johnson, who missed the five previous games with a groin injury. Elliott was called up when Johnson was on injured reserve, and Elliott scored the game-winning goal in his NHL debut, a...

VANCOUVER — Left-winger Peter Mueller is not on this trip with the Avalanche and he’s no longer unavailable because of a groin injury. He’s back to officially being listed with a “head” injury. I meant to write about this Sunday in the Detroit game, when I first noticed it on the injured list, but forgot. Forgive me. You tend to forget about somebody you rarely see.
CALGARY — The Avalanche is practicing right now at the Saddledome and defenseman Ryan Wilson and center Paul Stastny aren’t participating. Stastny skated with the team before Tuesday’s 6-0 loss at Vancouver but missed his first game of the season with the torso injury he sustained in Sunday’s 4-2 win over Detroit. Wilson suffered a head injury during his first shift in the...
The torso injury to Avalanche center Paul Stastny does not appear to be serious. In fact, Stastny will accompany the team on its flight today to Vancouver, British Columbia, and is listed as day-to-day for its three-game road swing through Western Canada starting with Tuesday's contest against the Canucks.

The Colorado Avalanche faced off against the Amway Detroit Red Wings for the third time this season after being outscored 8-2 in the first two games. And lo and behold - this time the team got the result I was hoping for during Peter Forsberg’s jersey retirement night. After an uninspired first period, the Avs came out hard in the second period and outworked a Red Wings team that...

Avalanche center Paul Stastny skated with the team Tuesday morning but did not play against the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena.
CALGARY — Avalanche forward Kevin Porter played at Michigan, and Vancouver forward David Booth played at Michigan State.
The bad blood ends there.
Porter was apologetic today about his mid-ice check that injured Booth and resulted in his five-minute major for kneeing and game misconduct early in Tuesday’s 6-0 loss to the Canucks in Vancouver. Porter entered the game with zero...
After putting together their first winning streak in two months, the Colorado Avalanche took a step back in their last game. Bouncing back from their most lopsided defeat of the season doesn't look like it will be easy.
At the Saddledome on Thursday night, the Avalanche try to avoid a losing a ninth straight game to a Calgary Flames team coming off its highest-scoring effort...
Colorado Avalanche winger Kevin Porter will have a phone hearing Thursday with NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan to discuss his Tuesday knee-on-knee hit on Vancouver's David Booth.
VANCOUVER — Avalanche center Paul Stastny practiced this morning but will miss his first game of the season tonight when Colorado plays the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena.
The surging Vancouver Canucks will aim for their seventh win in eight outings tonight, when they welcome the Colorado Avalanche for a Northwest Division battle at Rogers Arena.
