Despite their recent struggles, the Edmonton Oilers can still salvage a respectable record on their longest homestand of the season. Some rest combined with a visit from the last-place Carolina Hurricanes should provide them a good opportunity to begin doing that. The Oilers go for just their second win in six games Wednesday night in their only meeting of the season with the Hurricanes. Edmonton (13-11-3) is 4-8-1 after winning seven of its previous eight, and a cluttered schedule hasn't helped. The Oilers went 2-3-1 in a nine-day stretch that concluded with Saturday's 5-3 loss to Calgary. They surrendered three unanswered goals in the third period to fall to 1-2-1 on their six-game homestand that ends against Colorado on Friday. Edmonton is now coming off its longest layoff in three weeks.
