The Evgeni Malkin rule has reared its ugly head once again.

Shea Weber has been fined $2,500.00 for trying to crush Henrik Zetterberg's head in one of the more disgusting plays we've seen a very long time.

Apparently, play-off time is open season on Henrik Zetterberg.  You can jump him, smash his face into the glass...and nothing bad will happen to you.

Wow...a whole $2,500 fine?  That's one less ivory back scratcher that Shea Weber can have.

More after the jump.

Here's what the Shana-Hammer had to say to try and justify this:

"This was a reckless and reactionary play on which Weber threw a glancing punch and then shoved Zetterberg's head into the glass.  As is customary whenever Supplemental Discipline is being considered, we contacted Detroit following the game and were informed that Zetterberg did not suffer an apparent injury and should be in the lineup for Game 2.  This play and the fine that addressed it will be significant factors in assessing any incidents involving Shea Weber throughout the remainder of the playoffs." --Brendan Shanahan.

We've seen guys get far worse punishment for incidental hits.  But when a goliath like Shea Weber purposefully and maliciously grabs another player's head and smashes it into the glass...he gets a fine?

Yes, Zetterberg is fine...but not for lack of trying by Shea Weber.

I don't get it, Brendan...I don't understand the world anymore.

Break out the tin foil hats, peeps.  It's on now.
