DETROIT There was a very scary moment during the second period of Thursday night's Red Wings-Blue Jackets game. Columbus forward Artem Anisimov was falling to the ice behind the Red Wings' net, which upended Detroit defenseman Kyle Quincey. Then, as Quincey fell, his elbow appeared to land on Anisimov's head, which then hit the ice. Anisimov lay flat on his back as trainers and team doctors attended to him. They took several minutes to get Anisimov strapped to a stretcher before wheeling him off. Players tapped their sticks on the ice and fans applauded when Anisimov was finally taken off the ice. The Blue Jackets said Anisimov was awake, alert and responsive before heading to the Detroit Medical Center for further evaluation. "He's alert and stable," coach Todd Richards said after the Blue Jackets' 3-2 victory. "He'll be kept in the hospital overnight for observation. The plan is right now to send him back to Columbus (Friday), where he can see our doctors. "It shakes you up. It shakes up the team. It's a family member. Without question, it alters you a little bit, but I thought our guys did a good job of refocusing." The Wings were also worried about Anisimov. "You don't want to see a guy get injured like that," Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg said. "Hopefully, he's OK. It's scary when it happens. The doctors were there quick and hopefully he's fine." Meanwhile, Quincey suffered a left ankle injury in the collision and didn't return to the game. "Quincey, I guess, the guy fell into him, so he rolled his ankle," Wings coach Mike Babcock said. "So well know more (Friday), obviously, on an ankle." Quincey leads the Wings in plus-minus at plus-10 despite not recording a point this season. .
