By: Joe Daniel Welcome Queen City Sport’s fans to Inside the Box, a new weekly column dedicated to the Buffalo Bandits. Heading into the bye week the Buffalo Bandits are 4-3, good enough for 2nd place in the Eastern Conference. The Bandits will have plenty of time to rest and get injured forward John Tavares back who has been out of the lineup due to a calf injury suffered January 26th in a game against the Philadelphia Wings. The Bandits have struggled offensively without Tavares, only hitting the 10-goal mark in one of the three games he has missed. As the team has struggled to score, the Bandits find themselves in a bit of a slump, winning only one of their last three games without their veteran leader. Buffalo earned their 4th win of the year this past weekend after a stunning win against a Rochester Knightawks team that had dominated them a week earlier in Buffalo. The Bandits beat the Knighthawks 10-6 in one of the best performances at Blue Cross Arena in team history. It took a fantastic game from goalie Anthony Cosmo to seal the win with an offense that’s still struggling. Buffalo needs Captain John Tavares back soon if they want any chance at winning the NLL Championship for the first time since 2008. He is the heart, soul and leader of this team. His presence makes a difference when he is on the floor. John Tavares, at age 43, won’t produce many 6 points nights anymore but that’s not what this team needs. The Bandits need his scoring capabilities to start a season ending win streak. The post Inside The Box Score: Bandits Need Tavares Back appeared first on Queen City Sports.

Miraculous - Islanders place Rick DiPietro on waivers

Do you believe in miracles? On the 33rd anniversary of the Miracle on Ice, the Islanders made a transaction that got the hockey world buzzing. The team has officially placed goaltender Rick DiPietro on waivers, as seen on the team's site.  Assuming DiPietro clears waivers without a team claiming him - let's be honest, it'd take a miracle larger than the Miracle on...

Rick DiPietro Placed on Waivers, Likely Heading to Minors If Cleared

UNIONDALE, N.Y. — Oft-injured goalie Rick DiPietro has been placed on waivers by the New York Islanders and will likely be headed to the minors once he clears, as expected. The Islanders announced the move Friday, one day after they defeated the Canadiens in Montreal. New York will next play at the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday before returning home to face Carolina on Sunday. The...

Eklund: Reports: Islanders Putting Dipietro on Waivers. A Precursor?

More to come..the Islanders are up to something with this. Sending Dipietro to the AHL only removes $900,000 of his cap hit under the new CBA rules. Also doesn't that defeat the purpose of the Tim Thomas paper acquisition? What team would WILLFULLY choose to have about $9 million in dead cap space tied up in goalies who won't be playing for them? Waiving DiPietro negates...

Another Long Island Mess

from Cam Cole of the Vancouver Sun, It is a given that the first wave of ridicule in the wake of Friday's news that the New York Islanders had placed Rick DiPietro on waivers would wash over the hapless 31-year-old goaltender, no doubt inflicting a torn knee ligament, assuming they haven't all been removed and sent to the Smithsonian. But if there's a God, the...

O Oh no OHL

Peter Ceresnak (OHL Images) Not exactly a very good night for any of the New York Islander prospects in action on Thursday evening but one New York Ranger prospect escaped the press box and got to play. The OHL gets all the attention as that was where all the prospect action took place. Peter Ceresnak (NYR 2011 6th) was back in the Peterborough lineup after being a healthy scratch...

Saturday's speeders

Jesse Graham (OHL Images) Saturday night hockey for the New York Ranger and New York Islander prospects was about speed and skating. It fits in with the 2 prospects who earned stars for the night as when either gets into open ice with a chance to use their skating ability; it opens up space for their teammates. Hockey can be a strange game at times

Brenden Kichton (Spokane Chiefs) Friday night was one of those nights that left one scratching their heads by the performances from the New York Ranger and New York Islander prospects. There was some good, some bad and some that makes one wonder. First Star Brenden Kichton Spokane Chiefs So Monday Brenden Kichton (NYI 2011 5th) of the Spokane Chiefs was totally invisible...
