Earlier this evening, Newsday’s Arthur Staple reported that negotiations between the Islanders and Evgeni Nabokov’s agent Don Meehan will “start soon.”
Islanders GM Garth Snow would not comment, but did reiterate that the team will not trade Nabokov at or before the trade deadline. The article also suggests that snow’s preferred goaltending tandem would be Nabokov and 21-year-old Kevin poulin, meaning that should Nabokov re-sign Al Montoya’s days as an Islander would be most likely over.
However, there is no guarantee that Nabokov will bit at any offer the Islanders give him. It is unknown his true feelings about staying with the Islanders past this season, but quotes in Staple’s article suggest he’s enjoying his time on Long Island.
It safe to say that Nabokov will be here at least until the season ends.Cool Isles GearFor over a week I’ve been meaning to get a piece up about these cool Isles shirts I was told about.
