It's official: Brendan Witt(notes) has become the first player in NHL history to defeat an SUV and be placed on waivers in the same season. Not that, like, the NHL keeps records on that or anything.Katie Strang of Newsday broke the news that the New York Islanders have placed Witt on waivers today after he was activated from injured reserve. From Newsday (subscription req.):The gritty 34 year-old alternate captain has two goals and three assists in 42 games this year, but saw his ice time dwindle significantly throughout this season."The nature of the beast is that in hockey sometimes you have to make tough decisions and this was certainly one of them," Isles gm Garth Snow said.
