The New York Islanders announced Wednesday that they have signed defenseman Milan Jurcina to a one year extension, adding some well needed depth going forward.
Jurcina currently leads the Islanders in plus/minus rating (+1) and the team is a very impressive 11-5-3 when Jurcina is on the ice.
While locking up a player such as Jurcina for another year is a good move, fans are eager for someone like Matt Moulson, who is on pace for another 30+ goal season, to be the one receiving extensions.
The Islanders will have a solid core on defense next year, with Mark Streit coming back from injury and Andrew MacDonald and Mark Eaton both playing well.
With the trade deadline slowly approaching, it will be interesting to see if the Islanders can add some more depth, or if they will trade away players like Moulson.
