The New York Islanders on Friday signed defenseman Steve Staios to a one-year contract, the team announced.
Financial terms were not disclosed. New York Newsday reported the deal is worth $800,000 and can escalate to as much as $1.6 million through performance bonuses.
Staios, 38, was invited to training camp on a tryout basis. He had three goals, seven assists and 24 penalty minutes in 39 games with Calgary last season.
In 936 career games with Boston, Vancouver, Atlanta, Edmonton and Calgary, Staios has 56 goals, 156 assists and 1,269 penalty minutes.
