You know its a slow news day in sports when blogs are breaking down the do's and dont's of cooking show contests. Thankfully, Pierre LeBrun of ESPN gives us something to talk about with his latest bit of news... OK 30-sec break from vacation. Jaromir Jagr has agreed to one-year deal with Devils. Likely won't be officially announced until Tuesday... — Pierre LeBrun (@Real_ESPNLeBrun) July 22, 2013 It's been rumored to happen for a bit of time now (99% done over the weekend), but Jagr to New Jersey is all but official. What, you expected the Devils to just sit back and not replace Ilya Kovalchuk with someone? Jagr, 41, had 35 points in 45 games last year split between Dallas and Boston, including 0 goals and 10 assists in 22 playoff games for Beantown. Having him back in the Atlantic Division Metropolitan Division will be nostalgic and fun to watch, because there's nothing more metropolitan than Jaromir Jagr. It's a curious move for the Devils and, depending on the money, a solid one for them. Damien Brunner might've been a better option in terms of offense (much younger if anything), but with Jagr they're getting experience, some offensive productivity and, perhaps most importantly, a reason to go out and watch games. Jagr may be way past his prime, but he's one of the NHL greats and is still fun to watch. Whether NJ will be any good with Jagr now on board is a conversation for a different day (and blog). The 5 games slated between the Rangers and Devils next year just got a lot more interesting. All it needs is Jagr and Scott Gomez on the same team. - So much for those Jagr to the Rangers rumors, eh?
