The transition to life as a Toronto Maple Leaf could not be going any better for former Philadelphia Flyer, James van Riemsdyk. On Monday,  JVR  met with his former club for the first time since being traded for defenseman Luke Schenn in the summer. Fast-forward to today, James Van Riemsdyk is celebrating a 5-2 victory with his Toronto Maple Leafs teammates, a game in which van Riemsdyk potted his team-leading eighth goal of the season.JVR's  new teammates have been very impressed with his skill-set.To be honest, I think James Van Riemsdyk is just getting started. This kid was the second selection in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. The opportunity the Toronto Maple Leafs hav given this kid could prove to be a franchise changing development. I believe James van Riemsdyk was the missing piece the Toronto Maple Leafs, who are currently 8-5 through 13 games needed to be playing consistent playoff hockey again. I was actually shocked when Maple Leaf management relieved Brian Burke of his G...

The Toronto Maple Leafs will not be pushed around

There is one thing I’ve noticed about the Toronto Maple Leafs this year is that they are not going to be pushed around.  Even the host of CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada’s Coach’s Corner, Don Cherry recognized that fact on the weekend when he analyzed the first period of the Montreal game. The Leafs marched into Montreal and took control of the game right away.  ”We...

Drunk, Bald, Middle-Aged Maple Leafs Fan Rocks Out To Nirvana At Last Night’s Game; Shaka Sign?

The Maple Leafs thumped the Flyers 5-2 last night in Toronto and the big highlight on the Internet is of middle-aged, bald, Canadian natural gas executive guy who had a few too many Molson Canadians on a Monday night. And then the arena DJ dropped some Nirvana “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” That’s all it took Pascal to unleash his inner 1993 when he would slam imported Old Milwaukee...

Leafs’ Mikhail Grabovski not suspended for bite

We all know sports can get ugly. Sometimes athletes cross the line between sticking up for their team or themselves, and being just plain stupid. Biting an opponent is no joke, and the Toronto Maple Leafs’ Mikhail Grabovski may have gotten away with one. Grabovski had a disciplinary hearing today with the NHL for an incident involving the Toronto center and Montreal winger Max...

Grabovski Cleared Of Biting Incident

NEW YORK (February 11, 2013) – Following a telephone hearing conducted this morning, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety has decided not to assess Supplemental Discipline to Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mikhail Grabovski for an incident that occurred during NHL Game No. 160 Saturday night in Montreal. After interviewing both players involved in the incident...

Mike Augello: No Suspension For Grabovski

Per Sportsnet's Chris Johnston, the NHL found "insufficient evidence" to assess any supplemental discipline to Leafs center Mikhail Grabovski for the biting incident in Toronto's 6-0 victory over Montreal on Saturday night. will update with game preview

Maple Leafs Showing New Toughness Under Carlyle

Credit: Getty Images By Tony Ambrogio (@SNTonyAmbrogio) Brian Burke must be wondering where was all this toughness when he was GM. “We require, as a team, proper levels of pugnacity, testosterone and belligerence.” Brian Burke, November 2008 That was Burke’s famous quote when he took over the Leafs more than four years ago but it has been for the most part missing – until...

Mike Augello: Toronto Flattens Flyers; Reimer Injured

The excitement generated by the Maple Leafs 5-2 victory and dominating performance against the Philadelphia Flyers at the Air Canada Center Monday night was tempered as goaltender James Reimer left the game due to a lower body injury and did not return. The Leafs improve to 8-5-0 on the year, as Dion Phaneuf, Colton Orr, Matt Frattin, Clarke MacArthur and James van Riemsdyk scored...

No discipline for Mikhail Grabovski after biting incident

The NHL has an interesting policy on wanting to know when things happened - you know, when evidence is present. An ejection from the game for a major match penalty? Nah. You don't need evidence at that moment... maybe the next day when you decide if you should rescind a penalty. Do you need evidence to know if a disallowed goal is a mistake? No. A high stick or a kicked in puck...

Mike Augello: Leafs Call Up Rynnas

In the wake of the prognosis on James Reimer’s left knee, the Maple Leafs have opted to recall goaltender Jussi Rynnas, rather than looking outside of the organization for someone to back up Ben Scrivens. will update

Maple Leafs Rake Flyers

Tonight’s 5-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs was not the start to a six game road trip the Flyers were looking for. The Flyers are coming off of a four-game home stand in which they earned seven of a […]
