A healthy Columbus Blue Jackets has proven to be a better squad.

Jeff Carter and James Wisniewski pose next to a cannon during the off season. The two were sought out to be difference-makers in acquisitions.

The Jackets rolled to its sixth win (6-13-3) of the season against a bruised up Buffalo Sabres, especially in the crease, as Ryan Miller continues to miss time after getting rolled by Milan Lucic.

James Wisniewski notched his ninth and 10th assists on the season, proving already he’s a valuable addition to a battered Columbus squad.

Meanwhile, Rich Nash demonstrated some powress with a helper from Wisniewski and the other main acquisition in Jeff Carter.

Carter helped out Nash on his other assist, too, stocking up to five on the year.

Meanwhile, in the Columbus crease, Curtis Sanford may be the talk of the town in serious consideration for the job. He stopped 28 of 29 pucks shot on him.

The bottom line: I’d like to see Sandford hang around some stiff competition, and make an impact for a team in need of one.

On tap are the St. Louis Blues, Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators. At least three, if not, four are very winnable.

Curtis Sanford: A Bright Spot in Gloomy Columbus

With all the bad things going on with the Columbus Blue Jackets this season, there has been one bright spot for the hockey club. No, it is not the play of Jeff Carter, Rick Nash, Vinny Prospal, Grant Clitsome, etc. Rather, it is the play of backup netminder Curtis Sanford. With starting netminder Steve Mason nursing a head injury, Sanford has come in and provided the Blue Jackets...

Have the Blue Jackets Found Their Stopper?

After careening towards the Nail Yakupov sweepstakes, the result of an awful start (2-12-1) replete with shoddy defense, absent offense, substandard goaltending, a fragile team psyche, injuries and suspensions, the Columbus Blue Jackets were a team going nowhere.  In short, they were in disarray. However, a recent 5-4-2 run including a 3-0-2 record in their last five games has...

Ken Hitchcock on returning to Columbus: Meh!

I can’t help but smirk at now-St. Louis Blues coach Ken Hitchcock’s comments to NHL.com’s Louie Korac about returning to Columbus, where Hitchcock’s Blues will tangle with the Columbus Blue Jackets this evening. Hitchcock was the Jackets’ coach for four years and an employee of the organization for another season, but half a decade coaching a mediocre team apparently doesn’t...

Vinny Prospal Proud Of His 1000 NHL Games

from Michael Arace of the Columbus Dispatch, Theo Fleury, in his book Playing with Fire, writes that if he were an NHL general manager he would draft Canadian juniors exclusively because they “get it.” Although the league is less Canada-centric than it was in the previous century, Fleury’s line of thinking still runs on the edges of mainstream thought. Vinny Prospal is the...
