Jimmy Howard turned aside 28 shots Thursday night in a sensational effort to hand the Detroit Red Wings a 2-0 win and 3-1 series lead over the Chicago Blackhawks. No save was more important — or more impressive — than his sprawling denial of Dave Bolland’s shot during a Chicago 2-on-1.
Detroit defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo got caught trying to make a play at center ice, freeing the Blackhawks up for an odd-man rush. And it looked like Chicago had the game knotted too, as Bolland took a pass just feet from the Detroit net.
But Howard somehow managed to come across and make a pad save:
