Image Source: Andy Marlin/Getty Images North AmericaThe New York Islanders have officially named John Tavares as their captain."Tavares is the 14th captain in Islanders history. The 22-year-old is one of the rising stars in the NHL as he had 47 points in 48 games including 28 goals in 2013 after a 31 goal, 81 point season in 2011-12. Look for the new Islanders captain to surpass the 40 goal mark for the first time this season. There are plenty of pundits who think that Tavares has a chance to win the Hart Trophy this season and that speaks volumes as to how good he is. Tavares deserves to go late in the first round or early in the second round in most fantasy pools."Source: RotoworldThe HockeyFanLand InsightJohn Tavares as captain of the New York Islanders should be a surprise to nobody. Tavares has hockey skills that few players will ever possess; if you have followed this man's career from the start, you simply knew he would be a superstar. In the beginning many hockey experts wanted more. However, now with a few years under his belt in the National Hockey League I will simply say this, John Tavares is the most valuable player to his hockey club that there is in the sport. I am one of those people who believe Tavares will Hart Trophy in the near future. By the way, Rotoworld has his draft position in fantasy completely wrong....John Tavares is worth your first pick in fantasy hockey. He will be a top-five producer in all fantasy leagues. Nobody else, in my mind, even make senses to be named captain on Long Island. Congratulations, on receiving this honor, Tavares. You deserve it!Posted by HockeyFanLand.

Apparently there is still a market for a 39-year-old goaltender coming off of a season off. When that goalie is a two-time Vezina winner who has a Stanley Cup and a Conn Smythe to his name, though, it’s likely somebody can get over that first part.

As per Art Staple of Newsday's Twitter feed, there are a few players being invited to Isles training camp which begins tomorrow in Brooklyn.
The first is Radek Martinek, who is skating with the boys at IceWorks today along with ex-NYI Miro Satan. Staple mentions Satan does not have a golden ticket invite. Understandably, Martinek is a good insurance policy.
He also mentions...
