Welcome to Julylights, a month long series taking the top plays of the '11-'12 season and giving them to you one a day, every day of the month of July.The  Colorado Avalanche are a promising young team full of talent. They have had some seasons that they would like to forget in recent years, but they took a step in the right direction last season, when they finished the season with 41 wins and 88 points. Albeit not enough for a playoff birth, but much better than finishing in the Conference cellar.A major factor in that step forward was the goalie tandem of Semyon Varlamov and Jean-Sebastien Giguere. The young jump of Varlamov and the molding veteran presence of Giguere proved to be a great mix at certain times last season.The two goalies made some influential saves for the Avalanche last season, but none were as big as Varlamov's save on Dany Heatley of the Minnesota Wild.
