Detroit Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said during training camp that Tomas Tatar would be on the NHL roster for the regular season. He reiterated that stance in between the first and second periods of Detroit’s exhibition game at Boston on Thursday: "Tatar's going to be on the team. He's going to be one of our 14 forwards…we like him a lot & he's going to be on the team." – Ken Holland — Detroit Red Wings (@DetroitRedWings) September 19, 2013 Of course, Tatar making the big club means even more pressure for Holland to free up space. Detroit currently has 17 forwards under contract for the 2013-14 season. At least one, Darren Helm, could start the year on injured reserve. Patrick Eaves also might land there now, too, after suffering an apparent knee injury during a practice Thursday afternoon. Even if both of those guys are no-gos for the regular season, though, the Wings will be one over their anticipated limit at forward. Which again leaves us speculating on the odd man out: Cory Emmerton? Joakim Andersson? Jordin Tootoo? Remember, the Wings also have to clear about $2.4 million in cap space before the season begins. Helm ($2.125 million) would get them almost all the way there if he’s unable to play come October.
