Good news for Justin Abdelkader? Probably, regardless of how much of his contract he'll actually be paid under the new CBA. MLive's Ansar Khan reports that Red Wings GM Ken Holland plans on signing Abdelkader to a 4-year deal: "I anticipate we'll get something done before Saturday,'' Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said. "We're down to the short strokes. We've been close for a few days, just finalizing some things.'' Holland confirmed that it will be a four-year deal, which buys into two years of Abdelkader's unrestricted free agency. Red Wings mid-day quickies: good news on Abdelkader’s contract, ‘a day in the life’ and multimedia

Of brief Red Wings-related note from the land of fevers and lockout worries: MLive's Ansar Khan offers good news about Justin Abdelkader's status as a restricted free agent, and kinda good news if you're one for NHLPA solidarity:   Wings' Justin Abdelkader said he expects to have new contract by tomorrow. Wants it done before lockout. — Ansar Khan...

Red Wings overnight report: talking about the lockout, player mobility and keggers

If the Red Wings do sign Justin Abdelkader to a 4-year contract extension today, or Ken Holland closes a deal with as-yet-unsigned UFA target Carlo Colaiacovo prior to this weekend, he will do so in the most awkward of circumstances. One of the most player-friendly GM's in the game from one of the league's supposedly players-as-family-oriented organizations is in fact attending...

Done and done by Ken Holland: Red Wings re-sign Justin Abdelkader, sign Carlo Colaiacovo

Via RedWingsFeed, I'm sure the signings of these actual contacts will be quite awkward given that Ken Holland voted on behalf of the Red Wings to lock the following two players out, and aside from informally assigning Brendan Smith, Gustav Nyquist and Damien Brunner to Grand Rapids, MLive's Ansar Khan notes that the Red Wings made some final personnel moves on Thursday...

Red Wings forward Henrik Zetterberg speaks to WXYZ about the looming lockout

From WXYZ's Tom Leyden, Red Wings forward and likely captain-in-waiting Henrik Zetterberg is heading to tomorrow's NHLPA meetings in New York, and Zetterberg is more or less resigned to the fact that his current employer will be locking him out of Joe Louis Arena come Sunday: "Right now it looks like it's going to be a lockout.  Hopefully it will not be as...

Red Wings forward Darren Helm says he’s *mostly* recovered from his wrist injury

The vast majority of the Red Wings' players skated at Joe Louis Arena on Tuesday (cue an awesome 22-image gallery of the Wings' players from the Detroit News's David Guralnick!), and Wings forward Darren Helm spoke to the Detroit News's Ted Kulfan, DetroitRedWings.com's Bill Roose, MLive's Ansar Khan and the Macomb Daily's Chuck Pleiness about his recovery...

Red Wings evening news: more European player option news, Griffins stuff and a PA meetings roster

As noted by several Red Wings beat writers yesterday, after the Wings' players engage in their final practice at Joe Louis Arena tomorrow and pack their bags, we know that players like Jakub Kindl, Cory Emmerton and Jan Mursak will head to Europe, as they told the Detroit News's Ted Kulfan, with some of the Wings' equally young, single, inexpensive-to-insure and, well...

Khan reports that half the Red Wings’ team will attend today and Thursday’s NHLPA meetings in NYC

This is pretty remarkable given the situation: according to MLive's Ansar Khan, half of the Red Wings' roster will be attending the NHLPA's meetings in New York, NY today and tomorrow: More than 300 players are expected to attend the NHLPA meetings, including at least 13 Detroit Red Wings. “I think it just shows guys want to be informed,'' Niklas...

Red Wings sound the players line before departing for NHLPA meetings; Holland to attend BoG meetings

I know that we're talking about billionaires versus millionaires, arguing over how to divvy up $3.3 billion dollars of fans' money, but as the NHL prepares to announce that its Board of Governors has voted to lock out the players at a presser scheduled for 3:30 PM EDT on Thursday, and over half the Red Wings' players will later make comments to the media when 300 or...

Red Wings afternoon news: preparing for a lockout and Abdelkader/Colaiacovo contract talk

It's definitely a strange day for the Red Wings' players.
