Nashville Predators coach Barry Trotz has had a good viewpoint from which to judge the progress made this season by Carolina Hurricanes coach Kirk Muller. For one, Muller started the season as the coach of the Predators' top farm team. But also because the Predators have played the Hurricanes twice at key times since Muller took over for the fired Paul Maurice. The first was on Jan. 7, about five weeks into Muller's tenure, and the Preds came away with a 5-2 win at home in which the 'Canes yielded power-play goals on four of five chances. The second was a 4-3 loss at RBC Center on Feb. 28. Trotz said that Muller has the 'Canes "playing with a lot of pace and a lot of conviction.'' Trotz, whose team entered Thursday's games with the sixth-most points in the NHL, noticed how Muller applied Nashville's pressure system to Carolina, minus a few tweaks here or there. "Yeah, when they were doing it better than us, it was making me angry,'&#...

Hurricanes still tinkering with lineup

The Hurricanes are a team in transition in several ways. That includes the lineup. "We're not a team right now that has 12 guys in place," coach Kirk Muller said, explaining regular changes to line combinations. "You have to earn your ice time." The Hurricanes had more of their primary players in place than at any time in the past month for Tuesday night...

Time to start the Radulov watch! Will the wayward Pred finally come home?

The “Radulov Watch” has turned into a full blown “Radulov Warning.” On July 11, 2008, Nashville Predators winger Alexander Radulov bolted to the Kontinental Hockey League despite having one year remaining on his entry level contract. He was 22 at the time and would become the face of the new league in his native Russia. The 2004 first round pick is a four-time KHL All-Star...

One more thing: Rinne sets single-season wins record

Before this season the most wins any Predators goaltender had accumulated in a season was 36, done by Tomas Vokoun in the 2005-06 season. That total was surpassed last night by Pekka Rinne, who made 15 saves in a 4-2 victory against Colorado.“I think that is a stat that you respect and appreciate,” Rinne said after the game. “It’s for me as an individual, but it’s also...

Significance of playing at home is “huge” for Nashville

One word was repeated when the Predators were asked about the significance of the team’s current three-game homestand: huge. Eight points back of first place St. Louis Blues, the Predators are only four points ahead of sixth place Chicago. “It is huge. Everytime you are at home it is important, especially now with the playoff race coming down to the wire with teams being so...

NASHVILLE -- When Nashville Predators associate coach Brent Peterson was first coming to grips with having Parkinson's Disease, old friend Cam Neely helped him to get in touch with actor Michael J. Predators’ rink starting to fill itself on its own

According to On the Forecheck’s Dirk Hoag, the Nashville Predators are very happy to report that team’s finally starting to sell out Bridgestone Arena, or reach near-sellout status, while giving away fewer and fewer tickets while also charging a bit more for the tickets the team’s selling to the general public: “Fill the building. Nothing happens until the building’s filled...

Carolina Hurricanes vs. Washington Capitals 3/6/12

Tuesday night's 4-3 overtime win over the Washington Capitals goes down as one of the most exciting Carolina games I have seen this year. With 85 combined shots and 44 scoring chances between both teams, you would expect an exciting contest. However, "exciting" and "good hockey" are not synonymous and this certainly was a sloppy played game by both teams....
