And the Rangers tough offseason continues as Dylan McIlrath underwent surgery to repair a dislocated kneecap yesterday. No timetable regarding McIlrath's rehab and return to action has been announced at present.

McIlrath was injured during a scrimmage collision with fellow prospect Kyle Jean during last week's development camp at the MSG Training Center.

This is McIlrath's third knee injury in the last year and a half.

Jess Rubenstein at The Prospect Park says don't expect McIlrath back for at least 3-5 months.

...when you a play a tough physical game the way McIlrath does, you're going to suffer injuries. McIlrath's entire game is predicated on taking the body so it will be virtually impossible for the Rangers to ask him to pull up a bit on the ice.

...hope the kid's body isn't already wearing down.

...and what's up with the Rangers rewarding Jean with a contract the other day after taking out their best defensive prospect? I kid, I kid.

One bright spot yesterday was the announcement that Jeff Beukeboom has been hired to be an assistant coach with the Connecticut Whale. Beukeboom will replace JJ Daignault who recently accepted an assistant coaching position with the Montreal Canadiens.

...love to see Beukeboom back with the organization. Really great job by the Rangers and MSG having former players all over the organization with Messier in the front office and Keenan and Leetch doing analysis on MSG Network.

...too bad McIlrath will miss an extended period of time, because Beukeboom could have been a great mentor.

For those of you getting tired of the Rick Nash situation, apparently the Rangers are to...

NYR still very interested in Rick Nash, but, they're not willing to wait forever. Currently exploring other options as well. Someone blink.

...i know Sather wants to improve the team, but at some point he needs to tell Howson he can go eff himself and move on. Hopefully this report from Dreger is confirmation of the Rangers doing exactly that.

Finally, to put you in a good mood, look who's already working out for next season...
