ST. PAUL, Minn. The wait and speculation is over. Minnesota Wild captain Mikko Koivu was activated from injured reserve Thursday and will be in the lineup when Minnesota hosts the Vancouver Canucks.
Koivu, who hasnt played since Jan. 14 because of a shoulder injury, has been skating in practice and for over a week, but hadnt been cleared to play. The Wild, who are tied for eighth in the Western Conference standings with 58 points, went 3-4-1 with Koivu out of the lineup.
Minnesota (25-20-8) also placed defenseman Clayton Stoner on injured reserve and assigned forward Jed Ortmeyer to the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League on Thursday.
Despite missing 12 games this season, Koivu is still second on the team in scoring with 33 points (nine goals and a team-leading 24 assists) and is a plus-9.
