In his return to the AHL, Chris Kreider scored a power play tally to start an avalanche of CT Whale goals as they chased Rick DiPietro (5 goals on 12 shots) in his first AHL game since being waived by the Islanders in the Whale's 7-3 win over Bridgeport last night. Kreider was a +1 with two shots on goal. Leslie Treff at Hockey's Future noted that Kreider's positioning and stick work looked much better as was his physical play. Here's video of the sweet tip-in from Kreider (00:16 mark)... Meanwhile Christian Thomas had 2g, 1a as well as six shots on goal and Brandon Mashinter chipped in with a 1g, 1a. ...the headline of this post was one we were hoping to see in the NHL this year, not the AHL, but hey with the way Kreider has struggled to score goals this season I'll take what I can get. For one game at least, it looks like Kreider has accepted the challenge of being demoted. ...makes me angry to see Mashinter pick back up where he le...

Kreider returned to AHL

The Rangers have sent Chris Kreider back to the AHL’s Connecticut Whale, a move that was widely expected once the Rangers got healthy. Kreider was sent down last week, but was immediately recalled due to the Rick Nash “concussion” and played while he was out. With Nash back, Kreider can return to the Whale to work on his play without the puck. It is important for Kreider to...

Returning Kreider to AHL is not the end of the world

AP Photo/Nick Wass Rangerland was torn yesterday when Chris Kreider was returned to the AHL. On one side, many blamed Torts for not playing the kid enough to allow him to grow. On the other (note: more rational) side, many looked at is as a way for Kreider to get some solid playing time to work on the aspects of his game that need maturation. It’s clear how we feel on the matter...

Kreider Reassigned to CT Whale...Again

According to Larry Brooks at the New York Post, the Rangers have assigned Chris Kreider to the CT Whale. ...i guess the Rangers took my advice yesterday. lol. This was a no brainer. Made no sense for him to either be playing four minnutes on the fourth line or sitting in the press box. Hoping he takes advantage of this move to gain some confidence and get himself back in the...

Rick DiPietro says struggles with Islanders led to suicidal thoughts, takes it back

When the New York Islanders signed goalie Rick DiPietro to a 15-year contract back in 2006, it appeared that he would be tending the net for the team for well over a decade. Here we are more than six years later, and DiPietro has been assigned to the Islanders’ AHL affiliate in Bridgeport after clearing waivers last week. The Islanders have not had a winning season or made the...

Rick DiPietro's emotional comments about being waived

Let's face it - when the New York Islanders waived Rick DiPietro and buried his contract with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, no one was surprised. Jokes were cracked about both the length and amount of his contract and his propensity to get injured, like both were some personal flaw. Sure, Garth Snow and Charles Wang were idiotic for offering any player, let alone a goaltender...
