I've been following Chris Kreider on this blog since the Rangers drafted him 19th overall back in 2009. And while the experts have always been awe of his speed, the question was whether he would be able to fine tune his raw ability to succeed at the NHL level. After just eight NHL games, I think we have our answer.

Kreider's speed gives him the advantage over every player in the league, except maybe Carl Hagelin and they're teammates. While Kreider will get most of the attention for the semi-breakaway goal he scored (man he can shoot it), I was more impressed with his ability to use that quickness to beat two Caps to the puck and feed Richards to clinch the victory for the Rangers.

Here's Brad Richards on Kreider (via Blueshirts United)...

"To be honest it is surprising (what Chris Kreider is accomplishing) because this is a pretty high level he jumps into, but it shows his learning curve and his hockey IQ. He shows something every night. Let him keep going, doing that every night, making big plays and doing what he's doing."

Kreider's thoughts on the MSG Faithful chanting his name (via Pro Hockey Talk)...

"It was a surreal experience; I got goose bumps, obviousl. I was really tired after the goal, but didn't feel so tired when they started chanting."

Kreider's goal and assist...
