Here are your leftover thoughts (a/k/a “Leftgovers”) for last night’s game. Nashville Predators vs. Colorado Avalanche SITE: Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado DATE: Friday, October 4, 2013 FINAL: Avs win 3-1 (RECAP) * Nashville’s Seth Jones (4th overall) and Nathan MacKinnon (1st overall) started the game for their respective teams. It was the first time (of many to come) the two 2013 draft picks faced each other in the NHL. * It was also the first time Jones and MacKinnon have played each other since May 26. MacKinnon’s Halifax Mooseheads (QMJHL) beat Jones and the Portland Winterhawks (WHL), 6-4, in the 2013 Memorial Cup Final on that date. * This was a homecoming of sorts as Jones’ love for hockey started in Denver when his dad, former NBA player Popeye Jones, played for the Nuggets. * Nashville center Paul Gaustad seemed to elbow Nate Guenin in the middle of the first period. Preds dodged a bullet as there was no call on the play. * The Tennessean’s Josh Cooper reported late in t...

Predators' 0-2 record doesn't reflect improvement

There are a couple of ways to look at the Predators’ first two games. One is the optimist’s view. Nashville didn’t play all that poorly and in some ways outplayed its two opponents — St. Louis and Colorado. The pessimist’s view would be that a team with a bevy of offensive questions before the season scored only three goals and is winless. If the Predators play like...

VIDEO: Steve Downie launches himself at Roman Josi

In the second period, Colorado Avalanche forward Steve Downie leveled Nashville Predators defenseman Roman Josi. Downie has a history and Josi did not return. All things considered, is it suspension worthy? You be the judge. The video is below. Avalanche RW Steve Downie lays out Predators defenseman Roman Josi (Video)

Colorado Avalanche right winger Steve Downie laid out Nashville Predators defenseman Roman Josi with a huge flying hit during the second period of Friday night's game at the Pepsi Center. Downie was penalized two minutes for charging, and Predators defenseman Shea Weber, who jumped Downie to stick up for Josi, was penalized for roughing. Josi was OK after the hit. The...

Predators defenseman Roman Josi out with a concussion

The start to the season for the Nashville Predators has gone from bad to worse. In addition to losing their first two games they have also lost one of their top defenseman in Roman Josi. Josi was on the receiving end of a huge hit from Colorado's Steve Downie on Saturday night and according to the team Josi suffered a concussion.

Colorado Avalanche 3 – Nashville Predators 1 | POSTGAME BREAKDOWN

Highlights — Notes One night after being pulled in the first half of the first period, Pekka Rinne went the distance on Friday night. Although he was saddled with the loss, Rinne saved 33 of 35 shots that headed his way and allowed fewer than 3 goals for the first time in his last 4 games. For his efforts, the Colorado media awarded him the second star of the game. Paul Gaustad...

Steve Downie Obliterates Roman Josi, Somehow Gets Away With It

After seeing Steve Downie leap into Roman Josi’s head last night, Hockeydom was awaiting word that Downie was going to be suspended. We were wrong. Despite Josi being injured on the play, as well as the hit being illegal, Downie won’t be suspended. No hearing over Steve Downie hit. — Kevin Allen (@ByKevinAllen) October 5, 2013 Ask any NHL fan to sum...

Avalanche tops Predators, improves to 2-0

It wasn't the goal party of Wednesday's season-opener but when the final horn sounded there was still the same celebratory feel inside the Pepsi Center Friday night. Don't look now but Patrick Roy's Avalanche team is 2-0 after Friday's 3-1 win over the Nashville Predators. The Avs rode P.A. Parenteau's two goals to the tough win needing an empty-net goal...

Tonight officially puts last season in the past for Predators

It cannot be denied. Even the biggest Nashville Predators homer has to accept the fact that last year was an absolute nightmare. A team that had made the playoffs seven of the previous eight seasons (and, the one time they didn’t, were in it until the final days) expects nothing less than a competitive team. Instead, the Predators were everything but. They tied for the fewest...
