Robin Lehner believes the Senators can learn a lot from a Western Conference team like the St. Louis Blues. Sometimes in hockey, though, the teacher learns from the student. Monday was a case in point as the Senators handled the Blues 3-2 in an overtime thriller, to register their second victory over a western team this season. What a finish – the game ending on a high wrist shot from local hero Cody Ceci, playing just his third career NHL game. It was Ceci’s first career NHL goal and Kyle Turris fished the puck out of the net for Cody’s collection. Where to next for Lehner? It’s more than wins and losses, as Lehner explained during a lengthy game-day interview in which he insisted the Senators starting goaltending job belongs to Craig Anderson, even if this was Lehner’s 17th game of the season, with the potential for plenty more where they came from. “This year, I’m the backup, I’ve said that a bunch of times,” Lehner says. “I’ve played a bunch of games, but it’s been weird circums

Robin Lehner back in Ottawa Senators net -- for now

Paul MacLean is sticking with the hot hand. Backup goalie Robin Lehner will make his second straight start against the New Jersey Devils at the Prudential Center as the Senators try to string together a couple of victories in a row. Coming 30-save performance in a 3-2 victory over the Blues Monday, the Senators' coach doesn't feel a need to make a change because of Lehner...

Travis Yost: G35: Blues @ Senators

Ottawa's decent skating performance against Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon went for naught, with Ottawa's goaltending posting one of their worst efforts of the season. Craig Anderson yielded two goals on the first four attempts; Robin Lehner saw Los Angeles slip three goals past on the twenty-two shots he saw in relief. It's got to be a bit of a frustrating time...

Cody Ceci lifts Ottawa Senators with first NHL-career goal

Getty Images By Kristin Tullo (@K_Tullo) Ottawa native Cody Ceci turns 20-years-old this weekend, and just three games into his NHL career he is making the most of his final days as a teenager. The Senator’s rookie-defenseman helped the Ottawa Senators edge the St. Louis Blues in Monday night’s tilt with just over a minute to go in overtime, blasting a shot from the point past...

Travis Yost: G36: Senators @ Devils

Two quick notes to tee up Wednesday night's game against New Jersey. (1) Obviously, another big game tonight for the Ottawa Senators as they look to get back to .500 on the year in New Jersey. Ottawa, thanks largely due to the terribleness of the Eastern Conference, is still alive and kicking in the playoff race. There's still a ton of work to be done, and mathematically...

Travis Yost: A Quick Note on Injuries

One season ago, the Ottawa Senators were absolutely decimated by player-injury. It's true that some players get injured more than others, but it's also true that there's a lot of luck in how these things turn out. A split-second too late, a half-an-inch to the left -- there's a lot of variable stuff at the root of player-injury, and as a team executive, coach, or...

Brad Marsh: Inside an NHL Alumni Get-Together: Solving the Problems of the World

Our Ottawa Senators Alumni recently held its annual Christmas party. As you could imagine, we all had a lot of fun. There were plenty of stories, thoughts, opinions and commentary about all sorts of things. I always joke that, by the following morning after these get-togethers, the world will be a better place. That's because we solved all of the world’s problem the...

Mythots on a Tuesday Afternoon…

Coming off one of the most emotional wins of the season, the Senators are in Newark, New Jersey tonight to take on another Eastern Conference opponent who is vying for a wild card position. The importance of getting on a roll and going on a few winning streaks is reaching the critical stage, so you can understand the fan base collectively losing its head when news from this morning’s...

Ottawa Senators start off strong against the Blues

Big hits, big kills, a big defensive play and a big goal. The Senators rose to the occasion and had one of their best opening 20 minutes of the season against the St. Louis Blues Monday. Had they played even half of their previous first periods the same way, they’d have 5-7 more wins. Zack Smith set the tone physically and with a couple of penalties, and surviving his back-to...

Senators-Devils Preview

The Ottawa Senators have gone 18 games without consecutive wins. They'll try to change that Wednesday night in New Jersey against a Devils team they've beaten in all four matchups this calendar year. The Senators (14-15-6) defeated St. Louis 3-2 in overtime Monday to complete a 2-1-0 homestand with an especially local flavor. Ottawa native Cody Ceci scored his first NHL...

The Devils Damien Brunner Muscled the Puck Away and then Deked Lehner for a Wonderful Goal
