TEAMS: Detroit Red Wings, Tampa Bay Lightning, Nashville Predators, Colorado Avalanche
The Avalanche jettisoning of defenseman Kyle Quincey and adding of winger Steve Downie in the three-team trade Tuesday can be justified in the competitive sense. I get that. Colorado had a numbers issue on defense and needed more grit, or at least grit with some talent accompanying it, at forward.
But two additional things jumped out at me, and I couldn’t resist saying them from the peanut gallery.
One, wow, that’ll teach Kyle Quincey to be a malconontent, which is what the Avalanche seemed to be hinting. I fully realize Colorado first traded him to Tampa Bay, which passed him along, but what a punishment for his alleged grousing! He has to go to the Detroit Red Wings, the best team in the league and where he started his NHL career.
Two, it saved the Avalanche money. Not a lot, but heck, every bit helps. Both Quincey and Downie have expiring deals. According to the amazing capgeek.com, Quincey is making $3.25 million this season with a cap hit of $3.125 million. Downie is making $1...

I think the Avalanche did.
In case you missed the news – and I did at first because, well it was a day off and I was actually taking a nap when it happened (hey, I need a little sleep now and then, get off my @!#) – the Avs dealt Kyle Quincey to Tampa Bay today for forward Steve Downie. TB then flipped Quincey to Detroit for a first-round pick.
First off, why I think...

Yzerman orchestrates 3 team deal, trades Downie to Colorado
Yzerman has been busy, with another minor trade coming up right after this one. I'm at work, so can't go into a lot of detail but there will be plenty that will be sad to see Steve Downie go.Via press release from the team:

Yzerman’d Again, eh Dater?
Despite what George might write about me, I don’t blast away to intentionally rile the unwashed. If a little angst on their part is a byproduct? I have no problem with that. The whole idea behind A2Y has always been to write like we talk and speak what we think. Because it’s fun.
So, because we do this for fun, I’ll tell you that if you click the “continue reading”...

Red Wings Recap 2.23.2012
I'm bitter. Howard played great and line 1c was incredible, but all the talk will be about Vancouver snapping the streak. Whatever.Full recap after the jump:
The icing call was terrible and it cost the Wings the game. Plain and simple. Still, if the whole team had played well, it wouldn't have mattered. Franzen seemed bored out there on the PP and the fact that he was...
