SAINT PAUL, Minn. The Minnesota Wild on Friday assigned defenseman Mike Lundin to the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League on a conditioning assignment. The team also announced that it has reassigned right wing Casey Wellman to Houston and placed defenseman Marco Scandella on injured reserve. Lundin, 27, was placed on injured reserve with a back injury by Minnesota on Sept. 30 and has not appeared in a game this season. "He hasn't played hockey in little bit of time," Coach Mike Yeo said of Lundin after Friday's practice. "I know that he is keeping himself in great shape and that is not a concern. I know he is a very smart player, but with that until you get into the action -- until you get into competing at that level and those types of battles and until you have to execute at a game's speed -- it's obviously a big step. This will be good for him to get his timing back to get himself ready to play. There is no doubt he wants to make a good impression in his first couple games, so this will be great for him." Lundin recorded 12 points and 12 penalty minutes in 69 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning last season. He ranked fourth on that team in time on ice per game (20:24) and blocked shots (106). The 6-foot-2, 191-pound native of Burnsville, Minn., skated in all 18 playoff games with the Lightning and collected two assists and had a plus-4 rating.Yeo is eager to add another contributor to an already strong group of defensemen."That's what you want, really -- you want guys pushing each other," he said. "Forcing you to be at your best every night, and we are not making any decisions right now on our lineup two weeks from now. Too many things can happen between now and then." Wellman, 24, was recalled by Minnesota for the second time this season on Nov. 17 and has not appeared in a game with the Wild. Scandella, 21, has been out since Nov. 12 with a concussion, and the timetable for his return is uncertain.
