Photo courtesy of CBC.ca By Lukas Hardonk (@LukasHardonk) The Toronto Maple Leafs will wrap up a two-game road trip tonight in New York as they are scheduled to take on the Rangers at 7 pm EST. The game can be seen regionally on Leafs TV, or you can listen to it on Toronto radio station AM640. Tonight’s game is an important one for the Maple Leafs. They have lost two straight games─both to the Boston Bruins─and are beginning to fall in the Eastern Conference standings because of it. The good news is that James Reimer is back and playing again, although he will not get the start in goal tonight. Instead, Jonas Gustavsson will get yet another start with the plan being that Reimer will play tomorrow night against the New Jersey Devils to avoid having him play on consecutive nights. Gustavsson, 27, has played very mediocre this season. In 14 games, he has gone 8-5-0 with a 3.22 goals against average and a .898 save percentage. You might call those statistics deceiving, though, as he ha...

Report: Rangers' Boogaard had brain ailment

Rangers enforcer Derek Boogaard suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a degenerative brain ailment related to Alzheimer's disease that is caused by repeated blows to the head, the New York Times reported. The 28-year-old Boogaard, who died in May of an accidental overdose of alcohol and oxycodone, was found to have had CTE - which can be diagnosed only after the death...

Injury Updates on Sauer & Del Zotto

Pat Leonard at the Daily News tweeted last night that although there was no update on Michael Sauer, he did see him walking around in the weight room with his pads still on, jersey off after taking a vicious hit from the Maple Leafs Dion Phaneuf.Larry Brooks at the New York Post says it is likely that Sauer sustained a concussion....i think if I'm ever hit like that I would be...

Henrik Lundqvist: The King Of The Crease

Of course, we’re talking about Henrik Lundqvist. I, like many lifelong Rangers fans, have had the unbelievable pleasure of watching Henrik Lundqvist’s career evolve right before our very eyes. The King was drafted in 2000 by the NY Rangers. 205th overall.  Other notable goalies who were drafted that year: Rick DiPietro (1st Overall), Ilya Bryzgalov [...]

Tangible Progress – Part One

I feel pretty qualified (even from afar) to be able to pass judgement on how the Rangers have progressed over the first, now almost third, of the season.  Why? Simple really. We all watch the games but I was there for games one and two in Sweden and I was there for arguably there two stiffest challenges to date against the Flyers and Penguins. In between there has been a lot of...

Pregame: Rangers Seek Number Six Against Leafs

The New York Rangers enter tonight's match-up against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Madison Square Garden in fourth place in the Eastern Conference, having won 12 of their last fourteen games. They swept their southeastern road trip over the past week to extend their winning streak to five games, and now they will look to make a run at first place with four games (all winnable)...

Pregame Practice Notes: Same Line-up, Staal Skates & No Torts Tirades

Andrew Gross reports that the Rangers will go with the same line-up tonight and Henrik Lundqvist will be back in goal.Dave Lozo at NHL.com says Marc Staal skated this morning but was moving slow....i'm very encouraged that Staal is skating but I'm not expecting him back any time soon.John Tortorella tells Pat Leonard not to expect any Bruce Boudreau-like tirades on HBO'...

Have a Staaly Jolly Christmas, part 1

(SCENE: ERIC, JORDAN and MARC STAAL are at their parents’ house in Thunder bay, Ontario.) MAMA STAAL: It’s so nice to have you boys here for Christmas, even if Jared is running a bit late.  It’s just too bad that the dog ate our turkey…and the ham.  And about six pies. FATHER STAAL: Damn turkey wasn’t even thawed yet! It was still all frozen! ERIC: That’s my Rockso...

Rangers/Leafs Post Game Thoughts

Well this was an interesting game to watch. The Rangers were absolutely dominated in the first 30 minutes of the game, and wound up down 3-0  midway through the second period. The Rangers had some chances during this time frame, but weren’t able to bury them. After that, the game was all Rangers, as they quickly made it 3-2, but couldn’t get that third goal. They can’t win...

Post-game interviews

Not much to report. No update on Michael Sauer, but you’d have to guess he might have a head injury from that hit, which in my opinion was as clean as it was devastating. John Tortorella, in another short press conference, said it was a clean hit. The Rangers admitted they had a problem with Toronto’s speed, but they’ve handled some fast teams, too. The problem they had was...

James Reimer’s return is very timely against Boston Bruins

Finally, the Toronto Maple Leafs can contend. Having James Reimer, who suffered a mild concussion on Oct. 22, back in the crease will provide Canada’s best team a valid change to keep pace in the running for first place in the Eastern Conference. James Reimer returns to action tonight against the Boston Bruins. In fact, the Leafs are one of the few teams with a winning...

Dion Phaneuf's Dad Gets High Fives After His Son Decapitates A Ranger

The NHL's radical realignment means four conferences that will need names, so how about the Michael Sauer Memorial Conference after the late Rangers defenseman, taken in the prime of his life by this clean hit from last night. Just kidding! He's not dead. He's being evaluated by doctors with an "upper body injury," which is...
